That is what i'm talking about. We should post our winning tickets online for other lottery post members to see. It allows everybody to believe in order to win. I won $533.50 on june 13, 2010 with new york take 5 and posted a link to my actual winning ticket on the take five forum. When i win a second prize or the jackpot on mega millions or powerball , i will let everybody knows on LOTTERY POST by posting a link to the actual winning ticket for everybody too see. In the State of IL - any prize winnings $600.00 and over must be reported to the IRS.

Federal Income tax are withheld if your prize exceeds $5,000.00

State Income tax are withheld if your prize exceeds $1,000.00

Don't worry, besides the check; they also gave me a W-2G form showing 884.00 Gross Winnings 0.00 Fed Inc tax withheld.

First - Congrats on the WIN!! And yes you were REALLY close to hitting for 5 of 5.

Second - help me understand how the IL lottery didn't tax you? You got a check from IL Lottery. I was under the understanding that if I go to NY Lottery for a payout REGARDLESS of the amount they will tax me? I just assume that NY would TAX anything they could!

Or am I wrong, has anyone else been able to got to a NY State Lottery office and cash a ticket for LESS than $600.00 and not get taxed

I have been playing powerball twice a week since it started in IL on 02/03/10.

I spend what I can afford per drawing. - min/drawing - $10.00 - $5.00/numbers $5.00/powerplay.

My motto is Beat the Odds I do just that.

won $100.00 ea for the 4 numbers - 2 sets = $200.00 * powerplay 4 = $800.00

won $7.00 ea for the 3 numbers - 3 sets = $21.00 * powerplay 4 = $84.00

Total = $884.00

Had 4 out of 5 twice on the same ticket with Power Play. If I had hit the 5th number on either set of numbers, I would have really been greatful. As I am not a greedy person, I am happy thankful that I won the $884.00.
