Let's say the game is 6/52.

52 balloons with a number inisde are put on a huge dartboard and the first six balloons popped are the six winning numbers.

Oh yeah, the dart throwers are blindfolded! Or, have to drink three Guinness Stouts before throwing their darts.

1. I used to write this made-up newspaper called the Lemmer Times, and one of the regular lottery games actually involved the drawing official choosing from five pools of seven balls marked with one of the Roman numerals (M, D, C, L, X, V or I). So the result would be something like I-X-V-V-D .

2. I drew a cartoon in 2007 of lottery balls that didn't make it. They included:

- a ball marked 6 (SEX) (Sex is actually the Latin for six)

- a ball marked 8 (VIII)

How about Rubik's Pick 3?

you're given a Pick 3 number and a Rubik's Cube with numbers on it, not colors, and you have two minutes to line up one the the center rows with the Pick 3 you were given.

A lottery box. You have to stand in a box with a fan and you get 20 seconds to grab as many lottery tickets as you can and hope you grab a winner.

Predict how much you missed by.

Kind of a second chance for losing tickets -

Let's say you played a Pick 5 (because it's one line for $1)

6 10 15 27 30................ and the drawing was

3 8 24 36 38..................you missed by

3 2 9 9 8

If you would have played missed by 3 2 9 9 8, you get a pyoff, maybe $1,000 or so.

It has to be exact and either a hit makes it a loser or a hit has to be predicted as an X.

Survivor type formats wouldn't work in a lottery, the idea is for there to be a lot of losers in the game. If they are eliminated in the first round, who will there be to loose the other rounds?

What might work is more of a scavenger hunt concept where if someone does win a Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 5, a Pick 6 and a pick 5 + 1 game, they can claim an additional prize for having won all five. You would still have all the losers playing each and every game plus the promotional prize in the billions... [ More ]

A 100-number matrix has been done before, first in NJ's Lotzee (which was later reduced to, IIRC, 77 numbers, 00-76), and then the Multi-State Cash 4 Life (which was later replaced by Rolldown, which was in turn replaced by Hot Lotto).

I agreee, but we once had a poll about an expanded matrix, a 100 number matrix, and how big would one have to be before you didn't play, and some people said that they woul play no matter what.

I'm sure a few of them would try to beat #4, too.

Just for fun, let's do a Mad Magazine type thing on ideas for lotto that might have been proposed.

Here's a few:

Playslips and balls with Roman numerals Balls with invisible ink Reverse lotto.....in a 6/52 game, 46 numbers are drawn, six stay in the bowl. Those are the winninng six. The playslips look like a negative photgraph. The lotto quintatholon.....you have to win on a Pick 3, then a Pick 4, then a Pick 5, then a Pick 6, then a 5 + 1 in a survivor type game format.
