A few things, though:

Less defense spending and higher taxes for those who can afford it (the top 1% has more wealth than the bottom 90% together) will help pay for a stronger social safety net. Taxes are a part of life, so the government isn't forcing anyone to do anything. If I was rich, I would certainly have no problem paying more. There is a very simple reason for the doctors. The biggest is that they can go through medical school much cheaper over there. Their training is not as thorough as what they would have received in the U.S. I have heard many doctors talk about it, and it is a heated topic for them. Many US born citizens have a hard time competing for jobs against foreign born individuals. Here where I am from, there are more white retailers than minorities. I think it is just a matter of choice. Some people may not feel that they can make a living running one of those stores. Also, you have to worry about being robbed or your clerks killed or whatever. I don't think most folks want to be that close to the worksite. Also, I was talking to a guy from Africa that operates one of those stores. He got his store by going through the oil company that owned the property and held the bond... [ More ]

Here in the Marietta, Georgia area, it has been my observation that a very large percentage of lottery retailers are owned and operated by members of certain minorities, especially people of Middle Eastern descent. I have always wondered why this is the case, haven't you? After all, northeast Cobb is primarily white, very close to or above 90%.
