With the price of a powerball ticket being 2 dollars more people will take a chance on Mega Millions. I don't think powerball will ever break the record that was just set by Mega Millions.

Looks like Mega Millions did with a $1 selling price what Powerball hoped to do with a $2 selling price! Let's see if the pot will rise to a half billion dollars by Friday, then Mega will accomplish what it said it would accomplish in June 2005, when it changed to its current matrix.

Right now, Mega Millions could set a new US record if nobody hits the jackpot on this draw. If that's the case, the people who voted for Mega Millions will be correct. I hope someone matches all 5 numbers plus the Mega Number on this upcoming Mega Millions draw.

Was anyone surprised that, not only was the j/p not won last night, but that there was only 1 5-0 winner? I was expecting there to be a lower interest in PB with MM being so obscenely high, and realize that the # of 5-0 winners does not indicate the total number of players...

it just seemed to reinforce, to me, the idea that PB was not getting much 'play' at this point. the sole 5-0 winner was more of a surprise to me than the 68 5-0 winners that MM had the other night

So far, only seven states don't have lotteries: Alaska, Hawaii, Alabama, Mississippi, Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada. Out of the remaining 45 jurisdictions that have lotteries (the other two being Washington, DC and the US Virgin Islands), only Florida doesn't have Mega Millions and only California doesn't have Powerball.

When Florida joined Powerball in 2009, it went from the matrix of 5/55 + 1/42 to 5/59 + 1/39, making the game more difficult to win again.

Just two months ago, Powerball changed again by increasing the ticket price to $2, but in compensation, changing the matrix to 5/59 + 1/35, making the game a bit easier to win (but it only has about 500,000 total combinations LESS than Mega Millions does).

In terms of cash jackpots, Mega Millions is already there. One more roll, however, and they can probably claim the first half billion dollar jackpot! It would be pretty ironic if MM, which hasn't changed its game since 2005, beats Powerball, which has changed its game TWICE since then, to a half billion dollar jackpot.

I cannot believe nobody won the MM jackpot last night! However, 68 tickets won $250,000 (actually 47 tickets did, as the 21 in CA won only $56,000). I'm pretty sure some of those other 47 tickets were $1 million winners though (with the MegaPlier).

It's when the jackpot has increased by only the minimum amount of $10 million per roll. For instance, the current PB jackpot of $70 million is a guaranteed annuity, because it is on its fourth draw in the current run, and the starting jackpot of $40 million + $10 million for draw #2 + $10 million for draw #3 + $10 million for tomorrow's draw = $70 million. I think both will roll. I had switched to MM but decided while ago to get a PB ticket as well. My new strategy is to switch to a different 7-11. I told the clerk I wanted powerplay, he gave me a ticket without it and tried to charge me $3 and then I had him redo it since it did not say powerplay. Does this happen often

I voted for MM to be the next jackpot record breaker. Why? Because all logic seems to point to Powerball being able to do it first (higher starting j/p, faster rolls...)... and since I am an underdog-rooter... (not to mention the fact that MM is now at 241... that doesnt hurt the sway of my vote/reasoning) MM!!!

of course... I also continue to root for the Chicago White Sox, the NY Yankees, and the Arizona Cardinals... so maybe YOU should be safest to bet OPPOSITE me.

Our new pool at work plays the Powerball, but I have always been a fan of the MegaMillions, so that is what I voted for.

And being a child of the 80's I was a big fan of the movie MegaForce, so MegaMillions is the perfect JP for me

It doesn't matter how fast or slow it rolls. What matters is the odds and how much goes towards the jackpot from each ticket. The odds are essentially the same for both games, but each PB ticket puts about twice as much money in the jackpot. If you go by the advertised jackpot PB has even more of an advantage, because for every $1 in the jackpot MM advertises about $1.37, while PB advertises about $1.60.

Right now, Mega Millions holds the current United States jackpot record at $390 million shared by two winning tickets. However, Powerball has the single winning ticket record at $365 million. That's why with the Powerball Jackpot starting at $40 million, I would vote for Powerball to hit a new record. What do you think about my comment? Players can post and vote on this topic.
