Not sure why, but its not unusual for me to get close even with only one or two lines. The first time I ever played lotto I got the first 4 out of 5 numbers and threw the ticket away thinking I needed all 5. (I was 19 years old at the time)

I bought a single MM QP line the other day looking for elimination numbers and matched 2. lol.

I didn't find it too great either, lol. With your number I'd be shaking my head even more. Were you the other member a while back who was getting multiple number hits in consecutive draws?

I've been playing that line on Powerball and Megamillions for the past two months or so and I've noticed it's gotten one number in most PB draws, I think all have hit except my PB/MB.

Even with a jackpot more than 5x that of MM, PB only sold about 1.5x as many tickets. I wouldn't be surprised to see some changes in the game within a year but I can't imagine what they would be if MM doesn't increase its price to $2.

If more players felt like you, states' pick5 games with odds of 1:~575K and ~$100K jackpots would have more players. Most states had to have MM and PB size jackpots to get players to even look at their other games with better odds and lower jackpots.

Before Powerball moved into Maryland, I use to travel to the States that surrounded Maryland to play Powerball because those States all ran the game.

Now that the game has expanded into other States, including Maryland, and increased the ticket price, I have almost dropped the game from my list of games to play.

Actually, I don't know WHY MM rolled by its minimum amount, because last night's sales were $18.7 million, which would have supported a cash jackpot of ~$6 million. Of course, since Friday ticket sales tend to be higher than Tuesday ticket sales at any given jackpot amount, one would expect sales for Tuesday to be from $16-$17 million, so the cash jackpot should roll to at least $11 million, which would support an annuity of at least $15 million. I think there's a perfectly logical reason that they won't let you cancel tickets: the state sells a few more tickets that way. I'd be very curious to see what happens if a store accidentally prints two tickets and those numbers are drawn. The player who asked for one ticket paid and accepted the risk in good faith, but the lottery has diluted the value of the prize by erroneously printing an extra ticket. I worked in lottery store for a few years.

Our thermals would just spit out a ticket without anyone being around it. I would happen at least twice a month. Scary!

The odds were lowered, but they are still astronomical. I believe I remember reading that the house edge was slightly lowered, but that the overall expected loss was higher b/c a ticket doubled in price.

Your odds are determined by the number of chances you have, not how you choose the chances. 46 tickets gives you the same odds whether you play all 46 bonus balls, 1 ticket starting with each number from 1 to 46, or any other method of choosing 46 tickets.

RJOh, Sir, you're absolutely and positively correct on this account. They most definitely have THE EDGE they've been seeking...even more so than before. Only change is that more people have been brain washed into spending more of their money on the same odds for slightly increased payouts.

What they have done in reality is cut their risk exposure in half. And have used their advertising dollars to spin it as a positive for the players. Should come as no surprise as the business climate for the last 3 years has been one of cutting back on ALL risk, ALL expenses and ALL plans for expansion.

When players play HALF the lines they normally play....... Odds of winning are cut in HALF........

'Toss, you got that right! These lottery commissions are literally playing games while allowing the games to be played. That is, they've only raised the starting amount on the jackpots while raising the prices to play 'em. Nothing, and I mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING has been done to actually increase the ACTUAL ODDS for more players to win. This would entail either less numbers to match for a higher given prize, less total numbers altogether, or a payout for a scattered match of sorts.

Had a strange day like Mcginnin. Stopped at a lucky gas station. This guy asked for 1 pb/w power play. The clerk (new latino girl)was clueless and printed just a 2$ pb. The guy did'nt want it, so i grabbed it. I had the guy go behind the counter and show her how to choose the power play option. Pretty funny but i hope this is good luck. I somewhat disagree. I can see where a person who chooses QP would be foolish to spend that kind of money. I can also see where a person who has developed a profitable winning algorithym would be foolish NOT spending that kind of money if his parameters indicate a win.

While I still think Powerball made the right move (most people who aren't buying powerball tickets are playing Mega Millions instead, so there's little lost revenue, and when we do see huge jackpots, I'm almost certain more people will play. Any serious lottery player probably has a lottery program with data files of the games he plays that can import text files of other lotteries, wheels or randomly generated lines and compare them.

Comparing 175,000 lines with the average lottery file can probably be done best using your home computer. Always have the option of playing or not playing.

I play simply because even if I only win $100, that's a nice little hit that covers my cost of play for all the games for a month.

Heck, I bought a scratcher for $5 last week and hit for $100. Top prize was $100,000. So to me, $2 for a chance at millions is no big deal. And yeah, I know all about the odds. If I was that overcome with the odds, I wouldn't play ANY lottery game.

And this is exactly why we need a BACK TESTING service here at LP. I believe a group of 5000 PB lines wheeled with all the bonus balls would beat out 175,000 RNG lines every time. Not only would the smaller tier hits be better, but they would hit the JP more often.

Aren't you the same member who earlier was looking for someone to partner with to share the expense of playing every bonus numbers in both MM and PB every drawing? Part of the advantage of playing alone is you can play as many or as few lines as you like when ever. I gavel up playing PB when its price changed but now I'm taking a second look while MM jackpot is less than $20M.
