I use a two step process.

I write the programs in QB64, output the data as a CV, and take that into Excel.

I am using Excel - in my work, in my personal affairs and in almost everything. I just didn't know that excel has another use and that is...lottery.

A standalone program is probably faster than Excel for a lot of tasks. Only Excel offers the possibility to work on the results. You can save some paper and markers with it.

Overkill? Perhaps; perhaps not. Depending on what one is looking for, some ideas take seconds to run while others might require 4 days. In my particular case, 4 days is what the data I wanted to see required.

As a side note, the data turned out to be less than expected (which is usually the case). I have abandoned the idea.

Is 4 days of VBA run time not a little overkill? I mean usually when you guess right you guess fast, because it jumps out at you. Your intuition points it out and the other part of your brain tries to verify it. But you are right, excel is a must there is no easier method to track patterns such as the favorite FF, and other hitting patterns.

If you are a lotto fanatic then Excel is a must. This tool will do more for you than pen and paper.

Right now I am gathering data. I have a VBA program running. At this point in time, the program is 25% done and has been running for 24 hours. At this rate we are talking about a four day run. I could not hope to accomplish this with pen and paper.

I use a VBA function to count amount of different numbers in a set. Found on the internet.

there is a great function called countif...you can mark your excel spreadsheet with the winners, and then countif the values, and then organize the values looking for different F.F....and bottoms...

its easy. I personally taught T*T and SM everything they know about this...

= countif(Range,0)

i use excel for simple counting...as i am not good with averages or standard deviation or all that baloney stuff...but i do print out matrix templates and i also fill them in...and i use red pen...green pen...blue pen...highlighters of all colors...pencils of all thicknesses, number 2, mechanical...markers...tape...glue...

if they had taught us how to win the lottery in kindergarten...i might be better at it right now...(although i did love those blocks!)
