California by being paramutual,,,is only averaging $194,500+ per 5+0 hits vs. $250,000 on all the other MM hits...

That and California doesn't have Powerball.

By California law, all payouts are all pari-mutuel. I guess Powerball was not willing to accomodate like Mega Millions was.

California didn't get Mega Millions until 2005.

We are one wild and crazy state.

But, yeah, the ginormous population is the main reason. Although, the cost of living (as it is in NY) is absurdly high here. You have to win three jackpots a year just to pay the mortgage.

Every time I check the MM site, I see a winner from CA. There's gotta be alot of people playing in CA, must be cause of the cost of living.
