the ire should be directed at the government and career politicians and not individuals who put down a $1 or $2 wager and managed to beat astronomical odds. Besides, it doesn't matter how much in taxes the government collects, they'll find a way to waste it. Google, solyndra loan for a recent example of government waste.

1. We already pay more than our fair share to the states, just by purchasing lottery tickets. Lottery players in Idaho voluntarily give 10's of millions of dollars to the state every single year.

2. The rich do need to pay their fair share.

3. I agree with McGinnin, it sucks to have so much of a big prize taken away that it's not even big anymore.

Therefore, I think any prize up to 2,000,000.99 should be tax free. Anything over that can be taxed and the winner would probably still... [ More ]

Aside from being more progressive nations, I believe these governments structure the cost of their lottery products to include the tax at

the point of purchase. Smart idea, why can't we do something along these lines as well.

It's very disappointing to hear about a player who wins $1 million, only to walk away with about $400,000-450,000 or so.

In fact it's more than disappointing, it SUCKS
