Good point, I can't wait until we get POWERBALL in Cali. The Super Lotto here has lost it's steam because it doesn't grow rapidly, just one mil every rollover and that's not enticing enough, Powerball will take most of the money here hands down.

The Powerball jackpot is finally large enough to start paying for itself. Based on prior sales at the $100 million jackpot level, the cash jackpot, if it were not derived from the guaranteed annuity, would be around $64 million. I still bet it will rise by only $10 million for the next two draws though, assuming no wins.

Well, I matched only TWO numbers, and not one of them was the Powerball. Jackpot at $90 million for Wednesday, which means it will be at $100 million next Saturday if it's not won Wednesday (and I'm not playing this Wednesday or next Saturday regardless of what the jackpot does).

On a related note, if the jackpot is won Wednesday, it will still be underfunded by an estimated $5 million. Since the guaranteed cash jackpot, assuming interest rates don't change, is $57 million, and estimating... [ More ]

No one has been hitting it lately I have a theory as to why. The people who have played and already won jackpots that were too easy for THEM to win, they are now no longer in the game which leaves the rest of us. PB and MM are definitely NOT easy for any of us posting here at LP because obviously none of us have won.

Actually, I think the Mega Millions cash jackpot is growing faster than the Powerball cash jackpot, and if the PB cash jackpot reflected actual sales now, Mega Millions cash would be higher, and the annuities would be about the same. PB only grows faster at this point because of its guaranteed $10 million rollovers. I predict that even if Powerball has no winner, its jackpot won't increase by more than $10 million per draw until at least next month.

I have been looking at the past Jackpots, Lumpsum amounts, and assuming 39.6% in Fed taxes since the Jan 2 drawing, the in hand $ in a tax free state like TX.

One question about the cash lumpsum portion to Purse ratios.

So, with at 40MM purse, the take home this time around (Dec 29) was 26.4MM and after 35% (2012 top rate), in hand = 17.2

IF I do the same for the subsequent drawings -

Jan 2 - Jackpot = 50MM, in hand, 32.7 (or 65.4% of purse) with take home of 19.8MM
