Very true.

And the 99.9% who will never win a JP in their lifetime are also just like you and I.

And nowhere have I said that isn't reality. I think almost everyone who plays thinks they will win some day, it's why they play. Otherwise why buy a ticket? Of course most everyone will not win a jackpot, but what's to say some, or even just one, won't?

Bottom line is that 99.9 % of the people who play for the JP will never win in their lifetime.

You can dream all you want, but what I wrote above is the reality. Many I've spoken to in person and in forums claim they will win one day for sure. They somehow think they're so special that they will fall into that 0.1% category.

I would highly question those numbers right there. If there were really hundreds of millions of losers in order to obtain a winner, those Powerball guys have a lot of explaining to do as to why they only increased their prize by $10 on 4(?) separate occasions in December. Same for MM, as they haven't had a jackpot of over $100 million since mid-September.

How annoyed ??? hmmmmm, depends on the length of time prior to the video being released. Reasonableness to me would fall under the last 90 days to collect category. That still gives someone time to seek professional advice. 9 months and nobody makes the claim, might be a fair reason to share the video with the general public. I didn't necessarily think you were trying to discourage. Just saying that yeah, it may have some unfavorable odds, but somebody will win and even if it's not you that won in a certain draw, they are playing with the same set of rules and odds as everyone else (I don't think $1 per draw makes much more of a differece than $5 or $10).

I'm not trying to discourage you or anyone not to play. I'm optimistic most of the time, but reality is reality. People always say, well, someone wins most of the time. What they hardly ever consider is the hundreds of millions of tickets that lost in order for that one or two win ticket.

In a game of Lotto here in florida, the odds are about 23 million to 1. Take 23 quarters and throw them in the air. If they all land on one side, that's about the same as hitting the JP.

I totally agree with you whiteballz about the day dreaming what if? For only a little bit of money powerball lets me dream all thursday, friday and saturday. What I would do with the money if I got lucky and hit a nice prize in powerball. this is true. Personally, the only benefit I get from buying multi-state and state lottery tickets so far is the fantasy value of what I'd do if I won. I think spending a few dollars here and there to fantasize isn't too bad.

Although, Pick-3 and pick-4 Players are enthusiastic. Why you ask?

They get smaller and sometimes consistent returns, as opposed to tireless attempts in beating insurmountable odds.

I think they should have a warning at least a week before they release the image/video. Last year here they released images after only a month, though the guy did say he was unaware he won (it was weird though because he checked the ticket at numerous places and at different times). The image was pretty clear as well, he was called and informed that his picture was shown.

And I realize you could wear one of those germ masks, but I'd rather not. I wouldn't expect people to be nosy though,... [ More ]

you can buy your ticket from a machine wearing a surgical mask that covers your face. If a nosey customer asks you why you are wearing a mask tell them you don't want to catch the flu.

Its rare that the video cameras in the store can correctly identify you. Most crime shows even say that they cant identify the criminal correctly as the videos are grainy and of poor quality. I really don't care as we are watched by big brother on highways and other places....Its become a monitoring fiesta! Ole'Lay

I agree with maringoman.

They should have a set policy in place that they start looking for you in the last 30 days using any info or photos at their disposal.

That way you know how much time you have before your face is out there and all your crazy ex's find out you won the lottery.

So I was thinking, how annoyed would you be if you won the jackpot and went to an attorney to start creating a trust so you can stay anonymous, then so much time passed and the lottery released the video showing you buy your ticket?

It just seems like the ultimate bummer. I guess if you ever win, make it a point to contact the lottery shortly after winning and let them know you're making plans before you redeem the ticket
