Several measures need to be taken in order to make sure that only the original player can track their spending.

Your idea would allow several if not hundreds of people to track every original player's spending. Is it really that difficult for anyone to track their own lottery spending

That will naturally happen if states start selling lottery tickets over the Internet. Some players will continue to buy them from retailers just to avoid creating a paper trail.

if they did this, I would never buy another lottery ticket ever again. If you're so worried about someone stealing your ticket, why don't you get a pen and sign your name on the back of the ticket yourself

In theory sounds interesting to prevent some fraud.

The privacy concerns, huge logistics and expenditures to implement such a major overhaul, would be enormous however.

Not to mention the fake, lost or damaged I.D.'s, which would add countless headaches to both lottery and police officials.

Nice idea though.

What if the tickets belong to a pool ?

will they need a pool ID card ? ...now wait a minute that might work for a pool.....but I'd still want to be able to opt out.

Oh heck no!! first off people who let clerks get their tickets derserve to be taken for everything they've got.... basically finders keepers...secondly printing names and address on tickets...then there is a record of you and what not...I don't want them to know until I show up with the winning ticket...and third I dont want anybody keeping up with what I spend on anything...next thing they'll be sending you gambling addiction notices or other advertisements....no no the system we got is just fi... What if every time you buy a a ticket, you have to slide in your ID to a machine and the machine will automatically print your name, address and whatnot on the back of the ticket? Only those whose name is printed on the back of ticket can claim the prize.

This will prevent slimy clerks to take advantage of less savvy players. It will also prevent anyone else to cash in your ticket if you lost it or if yours is stolen.
