People move for a lot of reasons, but they're almost always logical reasons. A better job or a better chance of findng a job have already been mentioned. Lower cost of living. Better skiing or surfing.

Moving might give you better options for buying lottery tickets if you live in a state without a lottery. Other than that, do you really think that moving can increase your chance of winning the lottery? What other reasons would make you move when there's less than a 1 in 1000 chance that reaso... That may well be Floyd, but people move for lots of reasons. l have a friend who works in the Hotel Industry and he was telling me that their Chef quit his job and flew to the Philippines to be with a woman he met 2 weeks ago over the Internet. If Love can make people do that- what about Money? You make rational points but the possibility is out there for some people to make all kinds of decisions that you would define as goofy, but they do it nonetheless- even you must admit that

You know that finding a job isn't a function of random probability, right?

why is it a stretch to think some might consider moving to another State?

Because moving is expensive. Because moving is disruptive. Because moving usually requires quitting one job and finding another.

And because picking the right numbers has nothing to do with where you are when you pick your numbers.

Another consideration is the number of players in that state that win life changing jackpots. If 5 million play and on average 5 win a jackpot each year, you're not exactly increasing your odds by moving there. I bought MM tickets in another state at a store across the street from the store that sold a $200 million plus jackpot winner for that drawing. Just being in the right state, in the right city, and buying tickets at a store on the right street doesn't help much.

Good point on triggering Murhpy's Law and the lines......Mad Magazine once did a page on wrong waiting line insurance.

Both the PB and MM websites say that there are approximately 12 to 15 jackpots paid out a year. With an average of 104 drawings a year to make a move expecting it to result in winning a jackpot is and extreme example of presuming something.

You make a good point Ridge but l asked this based on a fact that many people have moved to other parts of the country to find employment, on the otherhand there are those folk who are truly passionate about playing the lottery that it would not be a stretch of the imagination to think that if one saw and read of a certain State having a slew of winners that they might, l say might- decide to try their luck.

No, that's a trigger for Murphy's Law.

The same as being in a long slow moving line at a store or the DMV or anywhere else, as soon as you move over to the fast moving line, it will become the slowest, and the line you just left will become the fastest.

No, you dont need to be in the right place in order to win the powerball you just need the right numbers. Now with scratch offs placement is key for the grand prizes but with the draw games you have the same odds as any other state

For Instance: if Kansas or Texas or any other state but yours-suddenly had an avalanche of wnners month in month out on a consistent basis, would you load up the truck, bid farewell to the neighborhood and head on over to that Yellow brick State looking for your own Pot of Gold
