Several get killed everyday in cars across the country but do you walk to work or the mall? A major airliner goes down every month or so but would you swim to Hawaii? Sure of the thousands of business people, pro athletes, and celebs their are a few examples of foul play. Should you lock yourself away like a hermit because of it? Do what you will. The oil exec was kidnapped by a husband wife team, the husband worked for the company. The exec had a routine every morning of leaving the house at an exact time and stopping to get pick up th newspaper at the end of his driveway before leaving for work. They learned his routine then grabbed him, when he stoppd to pick up the paper, put him in a wooden box then stored the box in a rented storage space. they didn't check on him or give him water. I'd have no problem winning it or saying no to people asking for money. I am like the poster above they'd have a hard time getting near me between security and the fact I am not a party person I'd be home or with family most of the time. If they got myphone number I'd just hang up on them.

Even if I win, I'd hesitate to give away portions of it. I am not a selfish guy and I don't believe that everyone's disconnected from each other. But my life experience taught me that I should be really careful and skeptical when it comes to helping needy people.

I might EVENTUALLY help people, starting from veterans. But I would just end up becoming a major landlord and build up the cash reserve for years to come, not spending most of it.

Nice little fantasy you've set up there, veganlife125, but if you read some of the threads here on LP about big winners you'll see that some gated communities are high crine areas, for one thing.

As far as celebrities, mostly they run with other celebrities, not long lost relatives of those who come into sudden wealth.

PS,

A lot of celebrities do indeeded have body guards, and entourages that they travel with, the public just doesn't see them or is aware of them.

These celebs and many others are worth millions and you don't see them being attacked or their family being held for ransom. And no the majority of these people don't have or need bodyguards. Okay, I TOTALLY agree with you. HOWEVER, there is a difference in perception out there between people who spent years working towards making it big, and someone who got filthy rich overnight via blind luck. That's just how it is.
