Those numbers are accurate to a point but they started fudging them awhile back

Much of the data coming out from the Feds/Government is unfortunately manipulated these days.

Good post, Shelby Mustang, thanls for posting it.

In the threads here about taking the annuity vs the cash option things like this are discussed and it's hard to convince people that what may sound like an annual fortune now may not by a house - or a car! - by the time the last check is received.

In the early 1970's Mercury sold an import car called the Capri and for several years running it was advertised as The sexy European for under $2300.

Yes, the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Inflation Calculator.

Those numbers are accurate to a point but they started fudging them awhile back so as to indicate a lower rate than the actual inflation.

That is a good tool for many here to use.

A lot of people have no grasp of how inflation diminishes the value of a dollar. The CPI calculator may shed some light on those who believe the annuity option is ideal especially one that is heavily back end weighted.

The CPI index has been somewhat mild the past 20 years but it was brutal in the 1970's-1980's. I have absolutely no doubt we will all experience a non favorable rise in the coming years.

Hi everybody, this is my 1st post and I found something while surfin the net it's a inflation calculator...just do a search for CPI inflation calculator...I put in 1,000,000 and the year I was born 1972 and it said back then a million dollars today was worth over 5 million back then. So then I put in the weekly min. wage which is like $290 before taxes and put in 1940 and it was equal to like over 2k!! I see how people were able to buy cars for a couple grand back then...well I just posted it to... [ More ]
