Problem is most lottery winners don't think about taxes until after they've won and by then it's too late to change what their situation was when they won. Even locally when winners live in cities that tax large lottery winnings, it too late to change their address and avoid that additional 1-2% tax burden.

Of course if you won 100 million in cash, perhaps you would no longer live the US, and would not pay taxes. Or maybe there are some ways to minimize taxes depending how where and how you keep the money offshore. A good tax attorney would be a must in order to minimize taxes.

Well, the other side of the fence offers more than a twice better overall odds than Powerball.

There is actually an ongoing effort to try to bring Euromillions and OZ Lotto to the U.S. and Powerball and Mega Millions to Europe and Australia. But no luck so far. I think the current cross-border interstate laws makes it too complicated.

The parimutual prizes in Euromillions are very good. They don't keep excess of money to themselves, instead they give it out to public. I love it.

It's only tax free for Europeans. If you won it and lived in the US then you would have to pay taxes.

If you win it while living in the US, I'm pretty sure you have to pay taxes on it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I wish Euromillions was available in the US. More choices are always good. What I like about the Euromillions is the advertised amount is the cash value not like the US where it's the annuity. Another advantage with the Euromillions is the winnings are tax free.

The odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in 116 million

the odds of winning the second prize is about 1 in 6 million

Overall Odds is 1 in 13
