If you know the rules ahead of time, then don't play. The states who have those parimutuel systems are doing it for a purpose. You can't force a state to lose money just because there are enough people who are opposed to it and try to change the law. They'd be laughed out of court. It's all about money.

Just like this whole Ebola scam, scare mongering.

I don't believe it's a thieving situation. Parimutuels exist because there aren't enough people who play the game to justify the state's expected revenue and pay everyone the same amount as a result. In this way, the JP or even a p-3/p-4 game is divided amongst the winners, as opposed to the same payout for everyone.

I hope most of the the people living in those parimutuel states are aware of their state's payout structures. If they aren't aware, it's only their fault for not doing their homework.

So anyone who complains about the fairness issue can only blame themselves.

WB- my issue is with how low the payout was for these two people given that California throws in the lion's share of the money.I would have thought that they would have seen some serious crown North of $600K, not under $200k. I hope that clears up the misunderstanding. Getting $166K on a $200million jackpot for 2nd place is insane ..IMO.

While I have yet to get 5 of 5 and reside in a state that gives you the $1 million for doing so, I am very appreciative that I don't reside where it's redistribution of wealth(IMHO). Legally they call it pari-mutuel or you can call it whatever you want to. I don't reside there and my vote doesn't count towards electing their officials/decision makers. Even though they knew it would be pari-mutual I am sure they had to be disappointed! It must be so exciting to see that you won all 5 and then the reality hits you in the face! Of course, there have been times when the winner received much more than a million so it does even out some.

noise-gate, you and I have had this discussion before. You didn't seem to have any problems with California's parimutuel payouts back then. You even went out of your way to defend it. Hopefully, now you've finally seen the light.

Hitting 5 without the powerball or megaball is probably a once in a life time event, you should get at least a million dollars in my opinion.

The Illinois winner didn't play the Megaplier, on the last draw it was 5X, had they played it they would have won $5M instead of $1M.

Yet someone from Illinois with those numbers bags a cool $1 million ? Its mind boggling to say the least.
