Gotta be careful if you win in some states. Aren't there some states out there that will list winner's full names, street addresses, date of birth, and even social security

Don't forget some states (ones that do not allow you to claim anonymously) may allow you to claim via a trust. Some states will still release your name if someone goes through some sort of a written request process, but worse case scenario, it would buy you extra time to take precautions.

Yes, it is good that they are helping the less-fortunate. But they seek that attention. They could always make an anonymous donation or ask the organization not to publicize the donation.

Not saying they are not good people, but they like the positive attention and the philanthropist reputation.

People who as you say live below the radar are smart to do so. When a person wins a life changing jackpot everyone is coming out of the woodwork to reach that person. Think it's a shame that all states do not have the option of claiming anonymously. I think there are only 5 states that allow it. Unfortunately my state is not one of them. I would be happy to win a jackpot that isn't even very high because it would be easier to just go about my life, when you win a jackpot in the mil... [ More ]

Some of the UK winners stay in the headlines, but often for good reasons. Take Colin and Chris Weir for example, who are always making donations and helping good causes. In that sense, the public eye isn't a bad thing because they are doing good things

..unless you a David Edwards or that character from Florida * Richard Lustig, who is considered a media whore when the jackpot climbs into the $300mil plus range.

For the most part, winners will have their say before the cameras or claim anonymously and go about their business.. Minding their own business unless you want to draw attention to yourself as the above mentioned characters..** this of course is just my opinion.

After following lottery winners who make it into the headlines , If it bleeds it leads , I think that the vast majority of winners live below the radar . They are safe and sound. Maybe it is the Holiday Season here now that is affecting my feelings.
