At this point in time I pretty much done with PB. I was planning on playing until the new matrix started in April, but I'm dropping it now and just playing Tx Lotto, MM, and Tx 2 Step along with a little All or Nothing and Daily 4. That's enough to keep me busy.

It's interesting how PB sells more tickets for a Saturday drawing than for the next Wednesday drawing and that trend continues into the mid $100 jackpot range. Less then 25 million tickets were sold for the $203 million jackpot last month which probably means players are waiting for much higher jackpots to start the ticket buying frenzy.

States added PB and MM to attract more players to their games and PB's $2+ price and high odds does make the local games with better odds and prices with smaller jackpots look more attractive.

When PB jackpot exceeds $200M its snowball chance in H* of winning doesn't matters as much and many more players will take a chance for $2.

Looking at the sales figures, it looks like most players figured out they probably won't win a jackpot with the current odds and stopped playing like they did. And matching five numbers even looks next to impossible especially to 5/39 pick-5 players.

People will buy $2 tickets when the buying frenzy starts; including Thrifty.

I doubt it since the overall odds of winning something will be better after the matrix change. I've seldom played PB since it price increase and will probably continue to only play MM of the multi-state games because of its cheaper price.

no i dont play powerball at all.... i used to play 5$ for every draw for mm before they made the odds even worst ...... i only play pb or mm now when it goes up to like 200plus mill....not that often...

i just play the state lotto now....

I'll play about the same, which is rarely. I just buy tickets here and there. I don't think I bought PB or MM in 3-4 months. If I do, it's one line.

The current 1 in ~175 million jackpot odds is no cinch; Powerball already is far from easy to win. As for roll-overs, the 1 in ~286 million odds will help for sure, but will, presumably, reduce sales in the process - take longer for jackpots to build to a level that generates a buying frenzy. Mega Millions jackpot odds is 1 in ~259 million, and yet jackpots are still getting hit earlier than many would expect. There's seemingly diminishing returns with raising the odds.

I'll play it more after the matrix change because there should be larger jackpots.

The matrix needed to be changed because it was way too easy for some to win they recognized that. Too many winners will bankrupt Powerball.

I wish them luck with the new change. With sales as low as 10mill, there's not much profit left. I doubt this will attract new players and that's what they need. Should be interesting but hopefully they design something decent. This won't stop me from playing.

No, I won't play PB more often.

As for the current format, I don't like the idea that the Powerplay doesn't fully apply to 5 + 0, it's $2M or $3M regardless of the Powerplay number.

I am as likely to play the PowerBall after the matrix change as Charlie Brown is as likely to kick that football.

I play it now with the powerplier because of the odds of winning second prize and the $2,000,000 second prize.

I'm quitting after the Matrix change.

They'd of done better with a price change or a bigaplier/smallaplier option.

I will play the same way before the new matrix as I play now. I will play the same way after the new matrix as I do now. I don't play the powerplay now and I will not play the new powerplay. I think it would be silly to start buying extra plays so you can win before the change. This is not the first time they have changed the matrix nor will it be the last. It really makes no difference to me in how I play.

I hav'nt been a regular PB player for awhile now, last tix I had were in sept. JP was 200+ that time.

As for this upcoming change, like others here I'll just wait and see,

even after the change I'll likely still just play now and then when the JP is oversize and overdue.

This is probably true for players who have a propensity to overspend or need to get in on the action.

Me, I've only bought 1 Mega Millions ticket this whole year and haven't played Powerball at all. I think for me it was more exciting to play because I hadn't been participating all year. So there was more anticipation for the draw that I did play in. This didn't change how much I spent though, because I was already well aware of the odds even with multiple tickets. Starving oneself leads to binge eating so in this case I think completely not playing will make you splurge when you decide to play and that wouldn't be good. I think it's best to play a little at a time and hope for the best.

I can't remember the last time I bought PB tickets, but it was when PowerPlay had a fix prize. I can remember because I matched 4 + 0 making PB one lottery game where I know I'm in the black.

Buying multiple lottery tickets increases your chances of winning, but you spend more money in the short run. You can limit the daily, weekly and monthly disappointment by playing once a year.

We have our own Pick 5 game called Weekly Grand that I like but it's $2 to play so I don't like the price tag much but if you get 2 numbers you get a free ticket and 3 numbers gives you 25 bucks and I get 3 numbers quite often so I play it every now and then.

I tend to play Wild Card and Hot Lotto although those involve other states. I really like Wild Card because you get two lines for a dollar. And nope we don't have a 6/49 game. I have to go to Oregon to play their 6/48 game.... [ More ]

Playing is fine but playing many lines when you know they're just taking more of your money is crazy. I used to average 5 lines for MM PB back when PB was $1.

I also rarely play the MM with it only being $1 ... I usually add the extra dollar but in my head I know the number odds ... a lot of people don't play or pay much attention to odds. It's hopeless ... maybe and I only say maybe ... if a person could live to be 600 yrs old ... maybe lightning would strike at age 400 and you could still have 200 yrs left to enjoy the money!

Even a $1 price tag doesn't have the magic it once did ... not when you actually study the odds so a $1 PB would probably... [ More ]

If I played the game regularly I would probably be upset about the changes, but ever since Powerball became $2.00 to play, I've only played the game 2 or 3 times so this doesn't really effect me. I basically quit playing it and these changes won't get me to start playing it now.

Once MM made the change last year, I rarely play. With the new PB matrix, I won't bother playing the extra number. The lottery big wigs should understand you can only push the public so far before they stop playing

Yes the jump to a $2 PB ticket was a killer for me also ... I didn't play for months and then I started again off and on ... if the PB would go back to a $1 ticket, I could work $4 a week into my lottery budget ... $2 for MM and $2 for PB ... I just hate throwing away $2 on a game that is hopeless to win for most people but throwing away a dollar doesn't seem as bad as throwing away $2 ... probably a mindset ... but a dollar is a dollar!

Ditto. After the price doubling to $2, I cut back on Powerball and rarely play. Was never a big PB player, but used to play some tickets most drawings. Now, at $2+1 (I always add powerplay), it's not worth the measly payouts one can most likely expect. The proposed changes look to bulk-up the very low tier prizes, but with too much of a tradeoff in complexity and even worse odds. Powerball is currently a relatively decent value for hitting 2nd place, which many players also aim for.

Have to agree ... I will also wait and see on my part. I stopped playing the MM an PB in November, at least for awhile. I seem to have little interest in losing any further dollars on those games ... going to also work my state games.

The fact that they are adding a 10 to the PB multiplier really means very little ... the 2s will continue to show up more often than any of the other numbers, this is not a seller for me. Unless they drop the 2 or decrease the number of 2s showing up ... it's ju... [ More ]

Will you play the Powerball more than you might have since the Matrix change in April 2015 will make it even more impossible to win? I am very upset with this news and thank LottoMetro for her post about this change occurring. I always play one ticket only with the extra dollar for Powerball.
