There are some states that create a scholarship budget based on expected lottery winnings. Some states MM's sales averaged less than $100,000 during the last jackpot run; I wonder how that would affect their scholarships if they had to pay one player $3 million like Virginia did.

l thought as much Stack. Savvy lottery higher ups know that if there is One surefire way to get people to fork over their Dollars, it's putting the idea out there that even if you lose a dollar or more; don't feel bad, it's supplemental money for the kids- hey who doesn't want to see kids succeed? Diverting funds from the children is touching the 3rd rail- WA sure seems to have.

I've never lived in a state that was shutdown by politicians, but Connecticut was shutdown for 54 days and PA for 34 in 1991.

telling us what it is like to live thru having the State you live in shutdown

Like I said I didn't have that experience, but if you lived in Jersey in 2006, you did.

It looks like there is a possibility the Washington Lottery could stop selling tickets and discussion worthy if it happens. But until it happens we could discuss the NBA finals.

Found the history of the Washington Lottery legislation and the lottery fund was redirected to the general fund in 2009 and a portion ($100 million) was directed to the Opportunity Pathways Account in 2010.

l am willing to bet that if the WA State lottery was tied 100% to funding Education- there would be no debacle over this issue.If the voters signed off on needed funds from the Lottery proceeds going to those kids but was being used elsewhere- the first to feel the sword would be Politicians. Out here in CA- we told that no money from the Lottery goes to fixing potholes or funding any agency but...Education. That's how it should be. Hope that WA gets it's house in order, and soon.

That email was sent to me and actually i also started a small thread topic on WA Lottery facebook page and they replied--

Washington's Lottery Hi, Right now, it's just a possibility, and we're hopeful a government shutdown won't happen.

What is there to discuss? If the state has a rule that says no selling of lottery tickets without an approved state budget in place that pretty much ends the discussion. Unless their law makers play the lotteries, they don't care either way.

The players have to chose , which games they like the most. All three neighboring states offer, Mega Million Powerball. Idaho , pick 3 only. Montana neither pick4 or pick3. Oregon , pick 4 only. Which could turn into a advantage for players. Between Idaho Oregon, Which every state get the most of Washington lottery players money could easily change to a full service state. They might add the one missing game they need to become a full lottery service state. It can happen.

Improvise- get your tickets from the neighboring States that do have a State lottery. Folks in Wyoming others who were locked out for years found a way.The politicians soon got the message that serious revenue was going out of State.

Yup, my advance play ran out last night, and I went to re-up today and could only go for 9 advance draws instead of the usual 10... Had to fill out a whole new play slip...

I don't think the state of Washington would seat back and lose these millions of free dollars it gets daily. Where else can the politicians get such easy millions without facing the voters wrath? Lottery players are a resource that must be exploited to the max. True story too.

How interesting. Puerto Rico is in extreme debt and they won twice. I would not be surprised if WA State wins one of the jackpots after this news.

Well WA State is broke and local congress is held by democrats that can't seem to stop spending and alot more.. Only in Washington State, shocker. I also have yet to find any clerk that can give me an advance ticket for anything, either dont know how or are too lazy. One clerk told me it wasnt offered in Washington State.

In preparation for the possibility a State budget is not enacted by June 30, 2015, Advance Play will not be available for draws on or after July 1, 2015. The number of advance plays will be reduced starting with Powerball (5/27), Mega Millions (5/29), Lotto (6/8), Hit 5 (6/8), Match 4 (6/21), Daily Keno (6/24) and Daily Game (6/24).
