they sometimes discontinue tix if they slow selling to make room for the newer ones - think this might have been the case w all the outstanding prizes left

but yes people throw out winners all the time - this game was hard to scratch and hard to see the numbers as well

Well doesn't the lottery know whether a top prize was activated in a book? Like some people know what stores get a winner, and some know what book has it, but somehow, ny lottery as a whole will know if some idiot bought and never claimed a ticket.

Royal riches I almost threw out a FTY once. It might be ... three others did too for jackpots. Sounds dumb but it could be true.

right now want a liability report from NYL to see how many tickets were left outstanding as well as a lawyer

I never look at the codes. I save ALL my losing tickets and I pay my local retailer a couple of bucks to run the tickets through the machine to ensure it is a losing ticket. I probably have found about $500 dollars over the last 3 years in what I thought was losing tickets to be winners. BUT I do NOT leave the tickets. I wait, watch and verify they are losers or winners and get a receipt on winners to see how much it won for.

they still have 4 months to cash it (and there no 2nd prizes either) - extreme 8s same case w 2/4 not claimed (but many 2nd prizes left unclaimed)

tis the season the worst offender w all 4 top prizes outstanding as i have said in several other posts

This game is creeping to the end soon with less than 1/2 million tickets left up for grabs. I really think the likely hood of a winning ticket coming out now is more not likely than likely and that sucks for us die-hards who played this game from the start.

those have codes on it still - ZAN is 30, ZFN 35, ZAP 40, FTY 50, HUN 100, FVH 500, and losing code loser or big winner over 600

I know the OP is specifically inquiring because of the 1 Million A Year for Life game. The problem with that game as you know is that a retailer needs to scan it as the self service scanners don't accept it. Because this game has a lot of numbers, it is very easy to miss something and throwaway a winner.

On a number of occasions I've had tickets form this game where I thought was a loser only to check again with fresher eyes and find out it was a winner. I've also had occasions in which I tho... [ More ]

Many games ended with unclaimed top prizes. I remember about $5 New York Gold, $5 Mother's Day 2013,2014

the answer is yes - a recent example is the $2 triple win had 1 top prize outstanding when the game expired last month

but the easiest way is if you go to the NYL instant game report, and you see black bold font for a game, that means the game expired in the last six months and there are top prizes outstanding

I know that there are experts here that could answer this question for me. Has any NYS Lottery Scratch off game ever ended with a top prize or top prizes left unclaimed. I am curious if anyone knows of a game or games where they ended and the top prize was never claimed.
