To buy 1500 tickets and only have a single $7 winner (ie only one ticket picked the powerball) is pretty amazing

The odds are so astronomical that it is clear that one of three things happened:

1) QP's weren't used

2) Someone stole the winning tickets and substituted losing tickets

3) It didn't happen

It sounds like they actually dropped $3,000 on 1,500 tickets. In order to chose 55 of each 26 powerballs you would need to fill out 286 play slips (If you work hard and not smart) and you would have 14 play slips left over. If you work smart and not hard it wouldn't take too long to fill out if you did easy pick for the white balls and chose the appropriate powerball on the slip. Everybody should have gotten together and asked for the number of tickets they should have had to be handed over to a group member that could be trusted and told her the excess tickets are her's to keep and enjoy at her own chosen expense.

How in the heck do you only win back $7 on $3,000 worth of tickets?! That is 1500 tickets!!! If this pool was smart they would have evenly split the tickets between each possible powerball. This means they should have bought 55 tickets on powerball number 1, 55 tickets on powerball number 2, all the way up to 26. This would guarantee that they would have hit the powerball on 55 tickets which pays out $4.00 = $220.00 minimum return.

Does not sound like a pool I would want to be involved with

Tell them it's not gonna help lol. Some people in a department where I work put down $3,000 on the last drawing and only won $7!!! They set it up to where the pool members could just throw in as much $ as they wanted on tickets instead of everyone just buying one.

Well, in my opinion it was handled in the best possible way. I am not sure what I would have done in regards to chipping in my share of the money for the tickets that were already purchased.... I don't think I would ever forgive myself if I didn't chip in and one of the tickets turned out to be a winner

Well, sorry to say I think your girl crossed the line.

I ran a lottery pool for a group for 3 or 4 years. 1st we had a signed agreement, signed by all with copies to all. I collected the funds, bought ALL the tickets and distributed them via picture copies via the email to all the players, prior to the drawing. If someone didn't get the money to me in time, they bought their ticket, put their name on it and sent it to me to distribute as part of the group play.

You probably know more about lotto then any of them. Maybe you should run the pool so it's done right. I don't run ours but i always tell them what needs to be done. One of the meat heads wanted to do $10 a person but i made them stay at $4.

This has fustercluck written all over it. Besides the problems with the pool itself, if lawsuit comes out of it the company is almost certainly going to be included as a defendant, and I'm guessing that any major prize will guarantee a lawsuit.

According to my agreement I have a 26/696 share of this pot for Wednesday and a 1/21 share for Saturday's draw.

Buying tickets for the next two drawings makes less sense than buying extra tickets for the pool without asking. If the nobody wins on Wednesday will they charge you another $50 to stay in the pool for Saturday's drawing?

It sounds more like a investment firm running a lottery pool with zero experience or apparently four pools, two each on the next 2 drawings. Having a rookie run the pool for a record jackpot is bad enough, but arbitrarily deciding to raise the price to get into the pool is a disaster waiting to happen. There will be thousands of one time pools for the next drawing with the potential of thousands of lawsuits and this one has to be in the top ten.

I buy tix for my work pool. There are only 8 of us. Last week a couple people suggested we buy more tix. Each person kicks in $2 a week, so we're pretty small spenders. So yesterday I texted everybody about kicking an extra $2 each for Wednesday's draw. Everyone said fine.

Your buyer should have asked before acting.

If the Buyer purchased a lot of extra Powerball tickets and WON ANYTHING or WON the JACKPOT, YOU would be claiming that YOU are entitled to a part of the winnings, even thought YOU did NOT contribute as much $$ money $$ to the pool as everyone else did. The rest of the pool members might then have a problem with splitting the winnings with YOU, b/c YOU did not carry your part of the financial burden of the cost of all of the tickets in the first place !!!

That is a sad outcome but probably for the best. Pools can go bad very quick, especially if you win a big Jackpot. Sounds like your boss knows what he is doing and I actually commend him for the way he handled the situation. There was a disruption in the office taking away from company time. It ultimately cost the company several hours of pay for no return. The decision as to what to do - taken out of my hands. Wow has today been a crazed day thus far. One of the 2 senior partners came by as 3 of my co-workers were going berzerk. He (sr. ptnr) scooped up all the lottery tickets and marched into his office (into which I had never been until today - MAN is his office big and fabulous!). 1 by 1 we were each called into the office - he had a preliminary agreement drafted up for us to read - he gave us each the opportunity to pony up the extra 50$, and

This is unfortunate as it sounds like you all have a pretty good lottery pool going on. Scanning the tickets and sending them to everyone before the drawing is good practice. I would also be sure that everyone has read and signed a written agreement before each drawing which is signed and dated by each participant and clearly states which draw date(s) the agreement represents. I would be pissed if someone decided on my behalf to spend 50 more dollars without asking me. And no I would not pony up the money. You ask someone before spending that kind of money. Not everyone has $50 dollars to spend on playing the lottery. Maybe the 6 dollars was the limit for some of Maximumfun's coworkers. It wasn't that ladies choice to make.

Ok - so everyone is excited about the Billion dollar+ jackpot. I get that - I'm excited as well. I am part of a small yet intense lottery-pool at work. 20+ in the group depending on whomever pays for that week. Simple enough. A different person (rotating) buys tickets each week to share the responsibility - and then scans all tickets and emails them to the playing members.
