The only method know would be to go to each state and get the total number of prizes paid. Since the odds

say that the chance of winning a prize is 1 in 24.87 then we can multiply that by the total number of people

who won one a prize.

In Missouri there were 429,587 winners so the estimate is 24.87 * 429,587 = 10,683,828 tickets. This is

only for the last drawing. To get a estimate for all states combined we would need to do the same for all

states that sale PB tickets. The

Been looking this over as well.

It's been taking about 20 rollovers to get in the realm of possibility for a Billion Dollar jackpot.

The first 6 rollovers are pretty well fixed at about 10 Million.

After a 100 Million, people start to take notice; the pot climbs faster than 10 Million after that.

20 rollovers is 10 weeks, about 2 and 1/2 months; we got time, with the right set of circumstances, this year, but we chose next year with a little more certainty.

how about we use the number of winners America wide, to determine the number of entered tickets?

the chance of hitting the powerball is 1 in 26, so would that mean there are 26 times number of prizes won that had the power ball in them.

so add all the winners with a powerball in their prize, and multiply that by 26 should give a close approximation of the total of entered tickets.

total winners = 26110646

-wins without powerball -1086089

= 25024557 then

My figures above are loosely based on what I remember reading on the PB website and as such are not meant to be exact.

My estimates are based on the odds of 1 in 24.87 for winning a prize. If NY players won a total of 2,033,682 prizes and the

odds are 1 in 24.87 for winning a prize then we can estimate 24.87 * 2,033,682 = 50,577,671 tickets were sold in NY.

I read CA had over 3 million lower level prizes won in the last game, at least I think it was for the last game only.

Since the lowest prize paid is $4.00 then these wins alone are over 12 million. I wish they would release the

total ticket sales. My 2 billion is just a rough estimate for the last drawing because I do not know if the published

wins are overall or just the last game.

thanks for that . so there are a few known factors when trying to work out the number of tickets sold. the amount the jackpot increased by, and the percentage of ticket sales that goes to prize money, %40, and the % of that %40 that gets added to the jackpot prize pool. i cant find that last one. is that enough to make a guess at ticket sales numbers

Ok could you run a sim where the jackpot goes up $100m every draw, and see how high the pot gets , say %50 of the odds covered? or 150 mill tickets in the draw. or if its a free download give me a link. It's just i think the game needs massive sales to get a guaranteed winner.

Given the odds for the game billion dollar draws won't happen very often. In my many analysis I have found

that most random simulations will hit within 3 x the odds. The 1.5 billion built very quickly as people went wild

buying tickets. In two games it went from 500M to 1.5B which cut down on the number of drawings it took to

I think this jackpot cycle showed how quickly things can get insane, a few draws the pot only increase +$20 mill, then +$50 mill then +200 then suddenly 400+ and +600. consider how hard it is to win , i can see 2 x billion dollar jackpots advertised this year maybe more

It's easier than that. More people than just the jackpot winners go to lottery headquarters. You just need to create the illusion that you're one of the minor winners - say, a $1,000 scratcher. Timing also helps: since most of them will probably get bored within a couple of weeks, wait a month or so before claiming the prize.
