LOL JoshUK , those britts, lets run a ticket thru the wash. good results tho. here i just put some tickets on the dash board of my car, and the heat went away instantly and its been cool and raining for the last 2 days. I think it's the same type of thermal paper the US uses, but might be from a different manufacturer and have a different recipe .

It was folded at least twice. The wear is to intense for 1-2 wash cycles. Anything aside from the winning numbers, one QP no less, is not readable.

If one of our UK members is bored enough it would be fun if he/she folded up a losing ticket and gave it two cycles in the machine. I think I'll try that with one of mine, though the paper isn't identical.

To make the sign, just hold down the Alt button (on your keyboard) while pressing the numbers 0163. It's also in the special characters section of the message editor (it's the omega symbol Ω ) to the right of the smile face (emoticons) button.

If you have a smart phone or search bar on your web browser, you can look up anything...even the exchange rate for British pound / U.S. dollar

I have heard of document security being encoded with magnetic ink. i doubt that all lotto tickets would be printed and know nothing about how expensive such tec might be,. if it was cheap enough, I can see it being used. If i was a lottery agency I would consider using it as a secret ID for ticket sales. Even the time and date of the ticket purchase and maybe a store code. something the joe public dont know about. i mean if a ticket goes thru the wash the magnetic signal could still be enough to... A woman has claimed she has the missing 33 million winning lottery ticket but put it through the wash.

She came forward after Camelot announced the winning numbers had been selected in Worcester and told residents to check down the side of sofas .

The woman, who refused to be named, claims the paper slip went through the washing machine in the pocket of a pair of jeans.

There's nothing wrong with an impulse to claim as soon as possible. Who wouldn't like to be able to just run right over to the lottery office and actually have all that money right now? The issue is whether you yield to that impulse or take the time to make sure you don't make any mistakes.

yeah , I was thinking that too Todd. that the lack of need for tax planning encourages UK claims to be made too soon. I imagine the spending starts, even before a financial plan is even entered into their thoughts. hopefully nothing major would be spent by me before i know what my annual income will likely to be. keeping in mind every purchase will need Maint. insurance, and ongoing costs.I sure know many people i talk to when we are day dreaming about a big win ; whose spending plans never acco... The lack of tax on lottery prizes does take one thing off the table you need to plan for, but certainly is not the only thing. There are many people in the UK who blow through their winnings in spectacular fashion. I think if they planned better they wouldn't. It happens in the US also -- by people who don't plan. Those who DO plan typically don't blow it all.

So I will double-down on thinking it's strange that people claim their jackpots instantly in the UK.

Wouldn't you say US winners need to plan longer for reasons specific to us lotteries? Especially in non-anonymous states.

Keep in mind UK winners don't need to find lawyers for tax optimization as winnings are tax free and the media won't bother you.

Only crazy in the UK, where players feel a strange impulse to claim their prize instantly. In the US it is common (although not universal) to wait until you have some idea of how you're going to manage your windfall before claiming the jackpot.
