Pathetically sad! 1/3 of the $67 million cash value is around $22.3 million. No California lottery tax, but 2007 federal tax would have been around $7.8 million, leaving an after-tax balance of around $14.5 million. BTW, a $3 Million dollar home is considered inexpensive in California [CHEAP actually] !!! This is a starter home for most lower class wealthy people . Boy do I hope you're wrong. Someone who banks $20 million should not think it's a financially good idea to mortgage a house in order to bankroll a business they know nothing about. I don't get it either. I'd never want to pay mortgage on a primary residence if I could help it, but we see this time and time again. In some ways I might get an athlete doing that. If you don't know if you'll get traded or if your team might move to a different city, maybe putting down permanent roots along with a big chunk of money upfront may seem frightening. If someone takes home in excess of $20M after taxes, and chooses to spend $37k on a handbag, what of it? It's not as if shelling out a quarter mil for bags would have caused her to go broke. Nor would the Bentleys, nor the donation to Geffen which would have been a tax write off anyway.

She split the JP with her brother and father because pretty much every penny she had at that time came from them. She was broke, about to lose her home and also about to lose the kids. They were providing her with a lot of financial and emotional support. It seems only fitting that she would give them a share since I'm pretty sure they were the reason she had money to even buy lottery tickets in the first place.

If you pull up the place on GoogleEarth you'll notice that the road around the avocado orchard to the East of the home is actually laid out like a race track with some nice elevation changes. Looks ideal for karts

Now that is a family compound! An estate that large along with 22 acres would be very tempting especially when compared to Cynthia's previous home even though it was located in town in a very nice neighborhood.

I have no doubt most here at LP if they were blessed with a jackpot win would have opted for the 22 acre compound outside of town instead of the 1/3 Acre 30 year old home in a fancy neighborhood as both homes were comparable in price.

You are not alone Piaceri, I too questioned her spending from the start and the production companies she opened. That gold digger trainer/husband of hers was probably the last straw that broke her back.

Pretty sad story for Cynthia. Watching her on the TV show, it always brought up the question to me about her spending. It didn't seem to add up based on the split of the amount won.

I'm sure that along with the rest of you, we've all imagined what we could buy and how much we needed to maintain to generate income to live on. That's reality in a nutshell. My husband was talking to a young man from Miami who owned a huge exotic car dealership and he mentioned that it's always the guys with sandals, t-shirt and shorts who are buying and not the well dressed suits who come into his dealership. He says he never judges a potential client based on appearance and business has been fairly kind to him.

Here's what I find Fascinating about Cynthia.

She was constantly on TV, accepting every offer for an interview. Giving advice how to visualize your win. Ok, but did she forget to visualize not to spend with reckless abandon

She is definitely living in la-la land.

When she did the 20/20 interview she must have known she was in trouble, but was giving a false pretence of being a high-roller.
