Didn't see the show so not sure which lottery prize they won. If they bought sn $800k house perhaps they applied the lottery proceeds as a down payment as that would make better sense. If they won $1million on the publishers sweepstakes the take home cash value is about $250k.

That's what I thought that it had to be tax free. Spending that much on a house without it being tax free is not something I would do...

I hadn't seen these before. Thought it was interesting that one guy who took his brother house hunting with him then the brother moved in with the family. Nice.

I didn't watch the show but I'm gonna guess that winning a million wasn't enough to retire on and that they obviously saved money to buy a house. Lottery money + standard saved up money = $800,000. Just as any regular person would save up to buy a house, maybe they also saved up a couple hundred thousand.

There's a new lottery winner show on HGTV - My Lottery Dream Home - lottery winners have David (Bromstad?) house hunt with them - using their lottery winnings to select their dream home.

Not sure I would want everyone to know which home I just purchased...

I'm watching this episode now and i'm curious about something. Did they win the 1 million tax free? Because after taxes and such they would have about half a mil, not the 800,000 they're wanting to spend.
