The property is much more impressive from the air but still odd looking. It looks like it consisted of a main house, a house on each side that were later connected, and a house in the rear.

Enough. There are plenty of listings of historical plantations for NC, including a few in Brunswick County where Marie lives. I just cant find Marie's home which makes me question whether her home really was a plantation home.

Iyanla certainly implied that it was a slave plantation but I can not find anything on the internet about her house. It doesnt quite look as old as the other houses from that period. Plus those two wings - I've never seen them in a house from that period or a modern house. Maybe those are more recent additions? You would think that area, Sharlotte, NC, would have a list of historical plantation homes in their city/county. If they do, I havent found it.

Slavery ended in 1865 under Abraham Lincoln and was widely protested by the Democrats.

Wouldn't it be ironic if the plantation she bought was in use prior to that time

keep in mind that Jefferson was certaintly more liberal than Washington.

Nope, not a joke, the mansion she bought was a plantation and Iyanla commented on it many times.

In the first talk with Marie she says You realize this is a plantation right? Marie explains she wanted her kids to have a big yard. And in her commentary regularly called it a plantation.

Iyanla did clear up the misconception of how much Marie actually spent bailing out Hot sauce. She also confirmed what many of us here at LP already knew in terms of what Marie actually netted after all tax obligations were met. 90% of the population thinks she took home $188 million when in reality it was one third.

There were a few inaccuracies on that show. I think it's great that Iyanla cleared up the tax and bail bond situation.

I was thinking about how he would be threatened, maybe she'll have to beef up his comissary account.

Listened to the first 7 minutes. She said that he was in a federal prison but it was a state case and he is in a state prison. She also said that Marie believed there was a chance that Lamar would not go to prison. I dont know where she got that idea. He was no small time dealer and frankly his sentence of 10 years with 7.5 years to be served before parole could be granted was a very lenient sentence for the amount of drugs he was caught dealing. Iyanla didn't merely give her a hug, she rocked and cradled her on TV, that is exploitative.

While she has trauma and issues she is still a grown woman, infantilizing her is harmful, as it legitimizes her bad choices.

The truisms a la Be a witness to your own pain don't serve a purpose, there was no therapy on this show. Therapy (which I agree she would benefit from but didn't receive on this show) happens in a respectful manner behind closed doors, not in fabricated reality settings.

Iyanla addresses the lottery and why Marie continues to makes the choices that she makes....

I have a feeling that there will be a lot said that many people (lottery winners or not) can learn from.

I plan to watch.

A lottery winner is different than another wealthy person who has accumulated wealth over a life- time. All the emotions inside a winner have to be dealt with immediately. A winner must slow down their life.

You are no longer in the rat race. The problem with being in the rat race is that you are still a rat after you win.

Thanks for the clip. I like Iyanla's tough love approach. Marie needs someone to help her put a stop to her self destructive tendencies. She's acting as if she doesn't think she deserves better for herself.

Was reading an article on BBC and came across a term (occupation) I'd never heard before: Financial Therapist

Apparently they counsel people who make bad financial decisions because of underlying emotional issues. I'm guessing they exist for people like Marie.

Iyanla Fix My Life is NOT about financial obligations. It will not be about people suing Marie Holmes. The show is about a person understanding his/her own self better, by understanding the dynamics of the personal relationships in his/her life.

. I admit I would probably not be as sympathetic if kids weren't involved, but she the fact is there are kids (young kids) smack dab in the center of this. Some of them special needs. So yes, I do hope that she's done with bad decisions and emotional dependency on the wrong people. I hope she's learned from her mistakes and is able to successfully move forward.
