I still would like to know what his cpu is but my guess is malware and or windows 10 update running in the background.

If it's let go too long his hard drive will be toast.

Downloaded Rouguekiller, and it's still running at 40 minutes, looks like only half way through. So far it's detected 32 items, mostly from another cleaner i downloaded a while back called slimcleaner or slimware, sort of like ccleaner. But i uninstalled it since it has so much crap, and will reinstall ccleaner.

I paused rogue for now, taking too long, will let it run overnight when I'm sound asleep.

I use Chrome, and a couple of months ago, my computer was running very slow despite everything I tried doing. So I did a lot of research online, and the problem was fixed after reading through dozens of articles and forums.

Yes having one good Internet security suite license is good. It prevents before getting stuck with some *ware/virus/root kits and saves spending hours to clean.

I have Kaspersky. There are 2 scans, quick scan and full scan. The full scan may take a couple hours. What I like about it is, anytime it detects any malware, or viruses, etc. it will have a little pop up on the bottom of the screen telling you exactly what it is. I have a 2 year subscription. The Geek Squad recommended it when I bought my laptop.

It's definitely not Google chrome problem.

Your computer still has some vulnerability left out. It could be that the system restore that you did could have brought in a problem(DLLs). In that case you will soon endup reinstalling windows.

Did you follow all steps that I mentioned earlier to clear out chrome profile, uninstall and remove all old installation folder(left over folder and files) and then try with a fresh chrome installation?

I agree, just thought since he already had avast it's the one plus about it. I think it disables defender though so he will have to decide what one to use. I had that ransom virus on mine and thought I finally got it all and then my hard drive went. Bleeping computer is right lol

He should do the scans though to find what it is, I think he only used the cc cleaner and not any of the malware ones suggested so hopefully he will download your suggestion.

It's all good kreative. At this point we don't have any idea what's been done, so unlikely we'll make it worse.

Avast is a good program. No problems with it. I prefer Defender because it comes with Windows and it offers real-time protection.

There is one other thing I wanted you to download and run. It's called SUPERAntiSpyware.

Pretty straightforward. It will locate all the adware on your computer and most threats.

If defender doesn't work for you

Avast has a boot time scan -make sure it's updated first

go to scan for virus and check mark- boot time scan- start it will reboot

it will take some time, couple hours depending

Are you sure you don't have Windows Defender already in your computer?

Even if it is not enabled it should be listed in the program files under Windows System. Try running it.

If you can't find it, type Windows Defender in the search bar.

Until you install a good internet security suite, keep windows defender on.

If your windows defender got stopped during an update then it's fine. If it got disabled suddenly then there is definite foul play.

*wares are attacking your computer.

Good luck cleaning them. Worst part is people endup installing more crapware thinking they are cleaners. Shed out that yearly subscription fee for your Internet suite and be protected for an year or 3 based on subscription type.... [ More ]

Bobby, sorry you ever heard of Spybot Search and Destroy. I allowed it 15 minutes of fame in one computer and learned it was 14:59 too long!

I'll stick with Windows Defender which retxx should already have installed. And hopefully he has it ON!

I haven't read any threads where he (retxx) has claimed problems with Jade's or RL's programs. So that misunderstanding is on me.

Before doing this, use Firefox or some other browser and import bookmarks, saved passwords and other local data like browsing history.

If you don't want any of those, just follow the steps mentioned.

As Deo mentions, definitely some kind of adware in it. In that case malwarebyles anti malware or equivalently good malware removal tool is needed to clear out the issue.

Sounds like u got an adware. Did u install a tool bar or a free program recently? Adware's often hijack ur browser and take u to their website or end up with a grayed out page. When was the last time ur PC was working OK?

U may have to go to Windows Registry and fix the problem, but if u mess up, then ur PC could be destroyed for good. Try windows registry cleaner or similar proggie.

Are you using any extension or app n Chrome like ad blockers or so that's causing this problem? If so, remove it and restart chrome and retry.

If problem persists, zip the chrome profile folder in appdata folder and delete it

C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data

Then uninstall chrome. Clean off google chrome folder in program files or program files x86 folder based on your machine and installation type (32 or 64 bit installation or is type)

I've used several 'PC cleaners' since 1998 when I bought my first computer.

I remember well the 'SpyBot' program that found fault in just about every file.

I ran it in reaction to dozens of Web stories warning everyone that someone was trying to infect the internet with Malware.

Big mistake, for someone who wouldn't know what a computer virus looked like.

Instead of listening to beep codes and guessing that this was the flop alarm, just add a plastic of RAM immediately. You know it takes more. They just didn't want to deliver working pc's. Same for the HD and SSD or server space that you have. Someone made the remark above, that your provider can reprogram something or not at all or wrong. Another possibility. Current software is just a means whereby winning lottery numbers can be counted, sorted and subject to all kinds of fanciful manipulation.

so thats a start. after i ran one suggestion all i got with every move to a web site was chrome is not responding so i went to restore to put it back a week. now it is normal but still slow.

I don't agree with this at all.

First, I think retxx has a problem that goes much deeper than just cleaning. If he did half the tips in this thread, he'd have the cleanest computer in the northeast. Probably be in the top 100 in the country. Might even have to tie it to the desk to keep it from flying.

Then you need atleast 8-16 GB RAM, i7 latest processor(or decent multi core processor) to run those huge programs that are cpu and memory hungry...

BTW the program has to support/use multithreading if not the logical threads will be idle and just one thread will be handling all load.

The one program that boasts this as a feature is expert lotto. I am not sure about these programs.

May be RL and Jade Lottery can explain whether those programs are multi threaded ones or not... [ More ]

I think retxx has been trying to keep up with JadeLottery and Randomlogic.

Their programs require lot of hard drive space.

Maybe he doesn't have the shoes for it, as the saying goes.

A problem I've had with those 'cleaning applications' is that it's hard to find out

what specifically was deleted, particularly when something that was working

stops working.

Very good possibility his internet is running slow due to upgrades or downloading upgrades.

Thing is he hasn't said what version he's running. There's a least a dozen things he could try, but without a response, its useless.

Second problem is too many cooks. Over at the tech forum it was one on one. Each tech took a thread and tried to resolve the problem. (Keeps the confusion down). For some people its is just a game to see who they can fool. Others.......?????? I quit.

Most of the responders here have already forgotten more than I will ever know about computers, but I just had a thought.

Since your Internet provider (cable co. etc) can upgrade you to a faster speed, is it possible they may have screwed up and downgraded you to something slower by accident, or due to a glitch or a service interruption of some kind?

I don't know how likely that would be, but like I said, it was just a thought and hopefully not a dumb question.

The culprit for my high cpu and sluggish pc was windows 10 upgrade. I didn't install it because my laptop is older and then they put it in as an update and it kept running in the background, so now I update except that one.

Check your updates and remove KB3035583. Change windows updates to manual instead of automatic.

Edit- check your cpu by bring up task manager. right click on taskbar at the bottom, then start task manager and see what your cpu is

Move data to external hd if you have too much on a small hd.

Go to your computer advanced settings visual settings

Choose to switch all off, except eventually miniatures and mouse arrow shadow.

If processor Intel 5 or higher, activate the boost if you didn't. When computer starts up, F2/10 or other to enter BIOS.

If a program is slow, when program is running, open the taskmanager, go to details, right click program, set speed to high or max.

There is a possibility the sites you used to scan your computer has something to do with the problem. Its not unheard of for a less than ethical person to create a problem which requires you to pay to remove.

You may have come across one of those. I don't know.

There is also the possibility of a hardware problem.

What version of Windows are you running?

What anti-virus?

Have you scanned with Windows Defender

Do you have antivirus or Internet security installed? If not, there is a possibility that your computer has viruses or rootkits or malware or *wares....

How much slow has it turned into is the next question? Does it stagger a lot i.e., is something like a memory hog or cpu hog always running in the back ground.

If so it's good to first clear out the virus or malware first.

If you are using Windows 10, suggest you click on Settings, then System and then Storage.

This will tell you how much hard drive space you are using vs. the amount available.

If usage is above 75 percent, you might want to start deleting files you don't need.

CCleaner - installer

Malwarebytes is good, but CCleaner is better. I've used both in every computer I've owned since Win98 and never had a problem with it.

Install it and run it. It will analyze the computer and show how much free space you can recover by cleaning. Run Cleaner.

Scan the registry and fix any errors.

Download Windows Defender and Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal tool as well. Both are Microsoft products and should already be in... [ More ]

in Windows run cleanmgr (.exe) . Empty C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Temp (delete all you find there if necessary, like impossible to connect to network or ...). Avoid programs or online scans. If nothing works upgrade your hardware or reinstall OS from scratch. Do updates java / windows. Restart several times if necessary without Internet connection. (...).
