Good advice I'm this thread.

i personally purchased a handful of $5 scratch offs for $35. One of them I ran the roll out with only 3 left. No wins. I was doubly annoyed because I thought the roll just started at 001. Guess it was rolled backwards and ended at 000. All in all, I only won $5 off a handful of tickets. But I entered them into the 2nd chance drawing...,which brings me to my next thread.

I can't find the $600 ticket on the site either but it is still listed on their top prizes report as still having 385 top prizes left. Not sure why it's not being sold anymore. That is weird but not surprising.

As for the other ticket there are 50 tickets in a roll which makes the odds (6.9) pathetic. Potentially, every seventh ticket may be a winner. So, for every seventy dollars spent there's a slight chance that you'd win at least $25.00.

Fifty tickets (cost is $500) in every pack, whi... [ More ]

Looking at it now. Cant find the top prize $600 one. Did find the 25-5-100 prize one. They say:

Loaded with $25 and $50 winners At least 1 $100 winner per pack.

So, how many tickets in a pack? 30? At $10 a ticket that is $300? If you are guaranteed at least one $100 winner and you could win $25 bucks on each of the remaining tickets, you would have $825 minus $300 for the pack for a grand total of $525. They wouldnt let that happen. So not sure what their loaded with $25 and $50 winners

The New York Lottery instant scratch off games is one of the worst, if not the worst ever offered to the public. Been playing for over a decade and am saddened that the biggest win is $1,000, and that was almost ten years ago. The last time I won $500 was about five years ago.

There's a new batch of $10 tickets that came out last year (one with a top prize of $600 and the other offering only three prizes, $25, $50 or $100, the overall chances of winning on that ticket are one in 6.9).

It... [ More ]

Well, it is one thing if the numbers prove it. Typically they make these statements without evidence justifying them. That California Second Chance drawing offering an additional top prize is a cool way of dishing out money. I would like to see lotteries recycle unclaimed prizes in this manner, or allocate those additional funds to education (which some are already doing). The FL Lottery isn't very transparent when asked these types of questions.

For FL, they recently introduced a new $25 tic... [ More ]

I use to like that in Calif, at the end of the game, they would have a raffle for one top prize. That was back before they had the smart phone app that allowed people to scan their second chance entries in so the odds werent horrible. But, alas, they did away with it. They also did away with the number of top prizes. They justified all this by saying they were going to offer more smaller prizes and that is what people wanted. I dont believe it and that is why I stopped buying scratchers.

And this isn't even necessarily the case. Look at Ralphie's example of how horrible the odds are at hitting $500 on $30 tickets in NY. That is DISGUSTING.

Here in FL, we have a $20 ticket with odds of 1 in 179, and our $25 ticket has odds of around 1 in 330-350 at hitting $500. They seem to be focusing on pretty graphics, and social media marketing to generate more revenue. They also have lots of big winners during the early span of a game to hook people in. For example, the newest $20 M... [ More ]

The new lure is to increase the odds of winning lower tier prizes. And people are buying them like they're gold.

Go figure.

You're right. Makes sense for the lottery because people are more likely to put small wins back into the lottery, while with a larger win people will use at least some of it for a non lottery purpose. I stopped buying scratchers a couple of year ago and the games have only gotten worse but people are still buying the higher $$$ tickets.

I am in Florida also. Definately less winners on their scratch off's. Stick to the brand new one's that come out. Try just buying one dollar for a while. You can buy more at once with better odds. Then take that winning and move up to higher price scratch. I noticed there are fewer winning scratch offs. Try and notice when they put a new roll in. I think they stack the front end. Also, I have one on the very last ticket. I am disappointed lately in Florida lottery scratch offs.

Great point. There's alot of breaks built into scratch off games for players. The $100, and $500 wins are common enough to keep players coming back for more. They toss these players a nice treat every once in a while. What players don't remember are the countless occasions they put bills into the machine only to receive duds.

I've stopped playing scratchoffs for these reasons you've pointed out. While it is possible to win big, the odds are just incredibly bad.

Playing hundreds a day is not sustainable and will lead to you regretting ever playing. Trust me. I have blown through bonuses, credit cards etc...trying to hit the big one. Then soon as I am broke some 18year old first time player hits for $50,000. That adds to the frustration. The year before last I hit $1000 at least 6 times but I probably lost double of what I won all year. I still battle gambling away hundreds all though it is not ever day it still sucks when you look back on how much money... [ More ]

I think lottery games have generally gotten worse. The $20 Lucky Streak looks decent, but the $30 California Gold game doesn't impress me much with the odds.

I used to play more (in higher concentration, like $500 in a day). Now it's more spread out over the month, maybe like $100/week.

It feels like I used to win much more playing $500 in a day compared to playing $15/day or $100 once per week. I think I'm forgetting the times I lost that $500, in a couple hours sometimes, and how upsetting that can be rather than pacing yourself. But it feels like even a hundred bucks sometimes isn't enough to overcome the odds.
