annuity if the state/game allows you to assign the precedes to a third party, like a bank or insurance company, then you borrow against it and let them worry if it's going to pay over the 30 years or not. you get more precedes and there are tax advantages too

I do believe the annuity is worth it on lucky for life/cash4life but outside of those two games no not really. I can understand though if someone say an 18-19-20 year old won why they would take the annuity and why it might be smart too.

Annuity- having some other entity manage and benefit from YOUR money. Money markets and IRAs are no different.

I 'feel' that annuity is for folks inept at controlling their future debts/budget.

This limits them and creates an ebb and flow to see them thru the next check..

Lest we forget taxes go up every year...

There is a retired acct i know or at least 3 people who knew my dad. I heard it's not worth it. IRAs, money market funds, etc. are where to go depending on the stock market.

I've thought of about a dozen probable scenarios and haven't been able to think of a single one where the risk of taking an annuity is worth it. Every excuse that I've been told for why one COULD take the annuity comes with a big fat BUT attached to it. So then I went to the improbable scenarios page and the only way I'd ever even consider taking an annuity is if both MM and PB had massive jackpots up for grab at the same time, and I won both of them. If that were to happen, then I MAY take one... [ More ]

I know that depending on interest rates for the next couple of years. However what is everyone elses feeling? Is the annuity really worth it?

Anyone have a take on this. Too bad my dads been dead for over a yr and a half he would have answered this one.

He did tell me that perhaps someone might need the annuity and it depends on their taxes and finances.

So whoever does hit this lottery is it for like 30 yrs or something.
