OP didn't say whether the 100 million was before or after taxes so I went with the option I preferred. LMAO.

I am a student of history so I don't trust anyone or anything, which means I'm all for diversifying in as many as the safest avenues available. Nothing in this modern economy is safe. Some vehicles are simply historically less risky than others.

I'd have a few credit union accounts but the majority of my institutionalized money would go to banks.

FDIC is $250K, not $150K, and when you're talking money in the 9 figure range, you may want an institution that is used to managing sums of that magnitude for individuals. During the recession, banks might have failed at 3 times the rate of credit unions, but those failures were primarily in small, community banks which were later acquired and incorporated into the larger banks anyway, and given how many more banks there are than credit unions, one would have expected the number of credit union...
