Why would that be surprising? here were about 9.5 million tickets sold, and only 20 to 30% of tickets are self-picks. Even if every self-pick ticket only used birthday numbers that would mean between 1.9 and 2.9 million self-pick tickets with birthday numbers. Of the 6.6 to 7.6 QP tickets barely 100,000 could be expected to be birthday numbers, for a maximum of 3 million of the 4.5 million birthday combinations to have been played. Yeah, it seems like they are losing a lot of weekly players from this. It will be interesting to see what the Mega Millions earnings look like a few months down the line. That being said I will likely still buy the occasional ticket when the jackpot is particularly high

The odds take care of what Lottery expects(house to be profitable). There is no reason to screw up further.

The talks on pre-tests, post-tests, odds, frequencies, patterns, engines that predict(pattern based, NN based or AI),etc., all help lotteries one way or the other. In addition if someone accidentally steps in and reads posts in LP, they will also come to a conclusion that not many people can predict and the lottery is as tough as it is for anyone who tracks or not.

Personally, not a fan of Just the Jackpot. For group pools though, JTJ could be worthwhile. $1 million 2nd place prize split 100 or whatever ways doesn't amount to much. You're spot on about Just the Jackpot players having an advantage.

It wouldn't surprise me to see one or more JTJ winners of a large record breaking jackpot. A possible concern for lotteries though is the negative PR of non-group players wagering with JTJ (Match-5 is 48 times more likely). Probably not a biggie for lottery of... [ More ]

You're right when you ask, How much money do you really need? $100 million (billboard dollars) would suit me just fine. When it gets much past that, seems like it would be a pain in the butt to manage. I don't mind spending $2 bucks- to me it's like a puzzle to solve, but you have to pay to enter the contest. And I sure don't go overboard.

Only the minimum rollover amount ($10 million annuity for PB; MM appears to have none) added is guaranteed to any extent. In respect to Powerball, the estimated annuity jackpot is $75 million. If it rolls, as you point out, it will likely be advertised as $90 million or so annuity. However, both the cash and annuity numbers are NOT guaranteed. The winner could receive less.

It's posted on the TX state lotto site the days of the drawing. They only give the jp amount for MM but on PB they give you the lump sum amt, too. For MM, I have to estimate based on prior drawings. This time, I underestimated. Also, if you look at the PB posts and click view, you can see their future projections by highlighting the white area, copy paste. I based my opinions on the fact that a few states are using computerized system to draw out the winning numbers after all the tickets are counted. the way that the tickets are counted is based on the sale of numbers that's done when the ticket slips goes through the lotto machine at the local shops. The same machines that prints out the tickets are(IMO) counts the numbers and sends that information to Lotto HQ. How else would they know who bought the winning tickets?

Lotto As made mega millions extremely unfair. Lotto rakes in million bonuses to million salaries. Those are real mega millionaires.

With current jackpot 37 mil cash people average loss for 1 ticket is 1.8$. Powerball is schemed in favor of Lotto As too. Now mega millions is fabricated even more unfair to people than powerball.

When I zero in on the next picks, the game almost always double back to previous numbers. I've proven this many times by running my routine offline and observing the results. I rarely play Powerball or Mega Millions, because of the odds and the price increase. A boycott wouldn't work because the ticket sales alone would keep the lotteries profitable. Honestly, people will continue to play anyway, because of the larger jackpots.

Despite the fact I haven't won squat on Lotto this year, I'm still in every draw.

I've been playing Daily 4 pretty heavy too. Property taxes have to be paid by Jan 31, and boy did they go up this year. I've dropped $5 straight a few times, thought about going $10 but......that is a chunk to spend at once.

Haven't won much, but, it's more entertaining that crappy movies and expensive popcorn, and other habits.

I may be wrong but I don't think any official lottery has ever admitted that they made a mistake and undo recent changes that didn't work out.

I recall Texas lottery killed a $2 game years ago. Players didn't like the price and the fact that the lottery RNG chose the numbers.

You have a better chance at the state lottery. I am assuming you're in Wisconsin and see what the state games do.

I honestly haven't really played much on these lotteries. I still do workout pyramids on the current date so I watch and look. However the lottery isn't worth it. Besides my amazon stuff is picking up. Holidays are coming and bound for better sales than the lottery. Unless I can get a dozen people to be in a lottery pool I will avoid playing that much.

I'm just playing PB along with Texas Lotto and Texas 2 Step. Not playing MM. If MM's jackpot is higher than PB, then I play that one.

I play PB and or MM with the idea of hitting second prize. It's much better odds than my state's lotto odds, which is over 1 in 25 million. Granted, Texas Lotto's jackpot is over 13 million, but a million sets me up to retire. The only way second prize goes para-mutuel is if there are so many second prize winners that there aren't enough sales to fund the prize... [ More ]

Why two games? That's likely the same question many participating lotteries are asking too. For now, the price doubling allows Mega Millions to be milked for a bit longer while participating lotteries (MUSL) work out alternatives, such as combining the two games.

Personally, I cut way back on Powerball when it went to $2. And have done likewise with Mega Millions. Many others have done the same. For me, $750 million annuity ($250 million after cash option and less taxes) is the new benchmark... [ More ]

still sucks though because I haven t won more than the bare minimum in probably 2 years or more (I ve hit $100 on pb about 3 Times on quick picks but that s the most)

I love the state run games and odds so much better but I m admittedly too stubborn to quit pb and mm outright
