300 probably sounds better to a lot of people than 298 or 299, but I don't imagine that 305 or 309 brings in a lot of people who weren't going to bother when it was just 300.

With Saturday's drawing being two day before Christmas I wonder if it was a very late sales rush that pushed the jackpot as high as it got. What a world we live in where $9.6 million is considered chicken feed. But afterwards, why not have the state lottery sites reflect that the jackpot was $309.6 M instead of $300 M? While MI did, CA and TX - two of the biggest lottery states did not.

Redd it probably was not reported earlier because it wasnt going to be a big increase due to prior ticket sales and they do not know the final amount until ticket sales have ended. Unless there is a mad rush to start buying tickets right after a really big JP is advertised you never see them increase the estimated JP ahead of time. IT takes a boat load of sales before they move up the advertised JP.

$9.6 Million seems like too large of an increase over the reported $300 M for them to not report earlier. The lottery does themselves a disservice. Would $9.6 M sell more tickets? Well, it wouldnt see less tickets.
