It's more like pot-luck than pot blocking!!! It just happened to be an office pool that won this time, but many jackpots have been won by individuals and multiple players from various states sharing the same jackpot. Those bank employee pool that won this time would probably never win another big jackpot like that.

I haven't found that to be true in real play. Case in point. I buy tix for a small pool at work. The last 4 months I have bought only lotto tix, because I can buy twice the number that I can MM or PB. In the past 4 months buying 8 tickets every draw, we have won back a grand total of $6. We won back a little more on MM and PB, $8 Jan thru March. Point being they are ALL hard to win anything.

I feel like you do about the 2nd prizes for MM and PB. A long while ago I heard someone (I can t remember who but it was someone with more than a general knowledge of the odds) talk about the games once and they mentioned you should think about the 2nd prize like a separate game. After giving it some thought I could see their point. Sure, I would love to win it all (and keep JJ from doing so) but even the second prize would make a huge difference in retirement plans.

Consider some of the posts in the News threads announcing huge jackpots, it's beyond greed, it's a frenzy.

I've said this before.

I play MM and PB not only for the jackpot, but also for the million dollar prize. Why? Because at my age it sets me up. I also play my state lotto. However, the odds for MM and PB second prize are less than half the odds of the state lotto jackpot.

Oh, and I play other games as well.

One way for there to be no winners would be if no one plays. I think that would be great if people not play the stupid games of PB and MM. If you want to play the lottery, buy a scratch-off ticket, pick3/pick4, or your own state's draw games. The multi-state games have gotten completely out of hand and terribly greedy with their absurdly low chances of winning. When there are long lines of people buying tickets because the jackpot is so large, the game is broken so to speak.

I saw in that California Mega Millions thread that a lot of people were congratulating the winners. Why? These winners just screwed us all out of a $500+ million jackpot. They re going to get their pool going again when Powerball gets huge and screw us all out of that too.
