My guess is that some members of the lottery commission get kickbacks from the company that sells them the equipment, so they will buy a whole new machine and set of balls, and the old data will have to be discarded. State lotteries replace their balls every couple of years anyway, even when the matrix doesn't change.

I'll say new to avoid skewed data.

Illinois went from 5/30 to 5/39 to 5/45.

For a while I tried tracking how many draws included the new higher numbers, wasn't to conclusive. Then the IL lottery went from balls to a RNG. At that point I stopped trying to track it.

It is encouraging thought to see a state reduce a matrix.

The Texas lottery implemented the revised Cash 5/35 game using the same equipment and ball sets used for the 5/37 game.

They simply removed balls 36 and 37.

It's been suggested that a new set of statistics be implemented, and that one year of data would be required to generate

the new chart(s).

Well, I can't wait that long!!

I'm following Jade's recommendation which is to continue down the existing path.

Time will tell if this is the right decision.

We used our Disimulate2D() function to simulate a few draws based on the distribution we posted earlier.

Below is the TX Pick 5 with all the Ball #'s 36 and greater removed.

Just do what Jade did, after adding a few of the new draws it won't make much difference.

I find this kind of data interesting but of little use when picking lines to play. I wish they would

knock a couple numbers off my 5-39. Anything you might have lost will be made up for with

the matrix change. 5-37=435,897 vs 5-35=324,632. Over 100,000 fewer lines to mess with.

I would feel like my birthday came early.

I agree with Raven62, I have been tracking lotteries for years.... Once they change the Matrix of the game, you need to start over from scratch.

Been there, Done that, Once you change the number of balls in a given game, the output also changes........

I'm afraid you have to accept the fact that the old game is over and give the new at least one a year or so to gather the data.

Pretending the game is the same with only 2 numbers out is close to putting in simulated data. Around same effect as you can never say what the result would have been with the game matrix limited to 35 numbers only. I'm almost sure you would not see the same winning lines.

My Excel File(s) for the 5 of 39 (Fantasy 5) also allows for 35-37 instead of 39. That allows me to use 1 File to play any game that is 5 of ?? (35-43).

Accepting that the Previous Draws have no impact on the Future Draw, I still like to know what the History Looks Like For my chosen groups based on the formulas applied to each Draw.

This is the First Time that I have Seen a State Change it's Game. My Gut tells me to Start Over; but, then I See that there is no Data to look at. Attempting... [ More ]

Just downloaded all 6,341 Texas Cash 5 drawings since October 13, 1995 to September 1, 2018 from the LP and removed all data with 36 or higher ball #'s.

Years ago, I kept track of the drawn position of each number. For all Texas jackpot games. When that computer crashed and burned, I lost all that data. But I realized after some time, that it hadn't really helped me win even small prizes.

If I were still keeping stats, I would keep the current stats and just forget about 36 and 37.

I have a question for our statistical-minded members.

On Sept. 24, Texas will introduce a pick 5 of 35 game in lieu of the current 5 of 37, which has been around for a long time.

It's not known if lottery folks will introduce new lottery draw machines and ball sets, or just remove balls 36 and 37 from existing sets.

I suspect they will remove the two balls.

Keeping statistics seems to be major past time for many lottery gamblers.

Question is:
