No, if you buy all the possible combinations, you are guaranteed to win. The problem is that you'll have to spend $606 million (excluding the overhead cost of actually buying 303 million tickets), you'll probably net less than that after tax, and worst of all, there is a good chance that you will have to split the jackpot with someone else, making this a bad investment.

There is not enough time to print out all the tickets by the next drawing, and even if you attempt to buy all the possible combinations (don't see how you can) there is still no guarantee you will get the winning numbers.

The 330M was good enough to make my point, it wasn't meant to be accurate, but the $2 price definitely blows my idea. I've never bought a ticket - I thought they were $1. The lottery is a tax on people that don't understand math.

The odds are 1:302.6M, not 330M. Tickets cost $2, not $1, so your theory is out the window

So if someone, or some group, were able to buy every possible combination of numbers, it would cost $330M, and they would get $970M in return. Actually, since an additional $330M was bet, the payout would be even higher. After taxes and taking the cash option, they would still be ahead by ??? .... maybe $100M, may... [ More ]
