That was so bad. Denise and her husband were so deeply in love and were married for like 20 something years, and as soon as she won, she tried to get ALL of the money for herself, so she suddenly told him she wanted a Divorce. Selfish woman chose MONEY over LOVE, and didn't even get ANY money awarded to her since the Judge awarded all of her money to the ex husband after the dastardly stunt she pulled , not telling him she won MILLIONS, and then just claiming she wanted to divorce her loyal and... There have been past lottery winners who failed to get prenuptial agreements. Half of the prize went to the Ex.

The young man who created Wresilicios, Jay Vargas. He lost big in a divorce and his show was canceled.

That was the one where she bought the ticket and won while they were married, she got the divorce right after winning without telling him she'd won, and he found out when one of the we will buy your annuity companies sent a letter to his address. The judge found that she'd acted in bad faith in the divorce proceedings, and awarded him the entire prize.

If you are asking if the ex-spouse owes the other a portion of the winnings, I would think not. Although, if one was paying the other alimony, then the payments may be increased if they went according to income.

I would imagine that child support payments would increase as well since those are based on income too.

Do you remember the Mega Millions winner Holly Lahti and her husband Joshua Lahti? I think their story is here in the Lottery Post Search box. Holly was still married but separated when she won one-half of $380,000,000.00 They lived in Idaho.

Jim and Carolyn McCullar of Washington State were the other other winners.

Holly is in California now.

I'd think that it would depend upon when the ticket was purchased, before or after the divorce became final as well as if you win in a community property state. I dunno, though, that's something of which I'd definitely consult about with a lawyer. ( That was an awkward sentence, huh?) I do know that many states have provisions to take out any state back taxes owed, and I think it's required by federal law to take the money out for student loans in default and any child support owed/in arrears. Each State has their own laws regarding money owed to an ex. This is a question a legal representative could help you find the answer.

There could be 1 - 800 #'s to call for referral to the appropriate lawyer in your State.
