I check at multiple convenience stores when running my daily errands. Store employees do not save them for me. Instead I make arrangements to take their discards from the discard bin, if any are present, with some explanation like I play the second chance lottery or I need them for my taxes . Both statements are accurate but I try to downplay the prospect of finding discarded winning tickets.

This is why states like mine (VA) suck with the prize codes, it's very difficult to find thrown away winners because it's hard to miss that B Z P D on a losing ticket.

That's incredible though man and a huge chunk of extra cash for the year. It's like a gamble-free $5,000 winner....actually, it's better because yours was tax-free which knocks a $5,000 down to about $3,600, lol...and most chasers will spend tens of thousands in a year and probably never even see that $5,000 winner.

Discarded Lottery Tickets - 1st Full Year of Checking Completed

The first discarded winning ($5) lottery ticket I found was on May 26, 2018. Since then checking discarded scratch off tickets has become a hobby. Most days I find a least one discarded winning ticket.

One full year later my total findings now stand at $4,597.

Today was typical: I checked 410 discarded tickets where the ticket buyer had not scratched off the Scratch to Cash spot. Today's five winners included two $5's, one $7, one $10 and one $50 winner.
