If you like fifties sci-fi apocalptic fiction a fun quick read is Level 7 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Level_7_(novel) though you may have to find it on ebay.

The dome homes look a lot like Dragon Ball Z homes, too bad the real ones don't fit in a capsule.

Those are great; it's fascinating to me how relatively simple and cheap they are to construct. There's a couple in a nearby small town who have one and a couple of yrs. ago a tornado went within fifty yards of their house and they barely had any damage, think a few windows blown out and a chip or two out of the exterior, easily repaired. It's amazing how large they can build them, too.

I will do that! I read a bit of what Wiki says about it (not much, b/c they do the spoiler thing on books/movies) and post-apocalyptic is my fav. sub-genre of Sci-Fi. My favorite of that type is Alas, Babylon. Written in 1959, it's a little dated now but still good. I found my copy of On the Beach a while back, so I read it again, then watched both the original and remake movies. I was surprised to find the book b/c I gave my fairly large science fiction collection to my nephews quite a few yrs.... [ More ]

Is there a reason why master bedrooms they always have to have a fireplace, a giant bathroom shower, hot tub along with a sitting area powder room? No wonder mansions or places are always expensive.

I think one fireplace is good enough where it should be in one room. the main living room or the rec room family guest room and thats it.

Nope. way too much. I aint gonna spend that much just for a ranch home.

Wine cellars, even if i wanted a fancy manor or whatever, id get turn a wine room into something more useful like to store tools like wrenches, screwdrivers, etc

I could live in a cave as long as it had high speed Internet and a good power supply. Pretty much constant temps all year 'round, safe from tornadoes and severe storms, even from anything but a near-miss nuke. (I'll admit, earthquakes might be a problem) I'd want the entrance sealed up w/ a lockable door and at least one other exit.

But no bats. Screw the bats.

I would want a home big enough so that my adult kids when they come to visit, we all would have enough space to feel like we have our privacy, a dining room big enough where we all could eat nicely together, a kitchen big enough for me to experiment making all kinds of goodies, and a garage to fit everyone's car with a circular driveway for guest, a solar roof, a nice deck and back yard for gatherings, and an infinity pool

Wow. Tennessee state sure has some nice houses but those outdoor pools im sure theyd raise the water bill

While its nice to see that some of those fancy 7 bedroom 8 bedroom mansions or whatever have movie rooms, i wouldnt have one exactly as a movie room. some stuff would have to be rearranged etc

I dunno; I wouldn't want either of those places. The Hawaii property has too much going on and I don't care if it made millions/yr., I wouldn't want the headache. Pickens' property, other than the house, is not all that special, at least not to me. I dislike that all the water his fancy improvements use has to be pumped out of the ground and re-circulated with pumps that are probably pretty expensive to run. I was on that site just a few days ago, looking at a Hawaii property link a mutual LP friend of ours had sent me and saw this property for sale: Molokai Ranch

If you can't afford that, then you might be interested in this nearby property T. Boone Pickens' Mesa Verde Ranch. It's a little larger, but ten million bucks cheaper. Probably take a lot fewer people to run it, too, than would that Molokai Ranch.

I will look at Ranch Style homes. No second floor. No stairs.

Plenty of land. Maybe for a rescue dog or two. They can keep each other company. Small dogs.

Artificial lawns.

Two car garage.

Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms.

An open concept in the living area. A large kitchen.

Plenty of space all around the property and inside as well.

If I won the Powerball or Mega Millions, actual house I would want to live in for the rest of my frikkin life is this

a library house. One master bedroom with bathroom, a small separate bathroom for guests, a kitchen dining room area.

then the rest of the house a huge library to walk around in with a small bed sleeping area to doze off in.
