Eclipse

In Ancient Greek mythology, they thought an eclipse meant that the gods were about to rain punishment down on a king, so in the days before an eclipse, they would choose prisoners or peasants to stand in as the king in the hopes that they'd get the eclipse punishment and the real king would be saved.
