So all of this might sound like conspiracy theory .... Heck if this type of thing was going on, and numbers were predetermined, a programmer knowing what number was coming out in a certain state ....

this is exactly what Ronald Dale Harris of the Nevada gaming commission did in Atlantic City when he realized that the keno software was the same in both states.

Well actually, I had Tipton in the back of my mind as I was writing that and actually near the end was going to suggest that were he not so greedy, he could have known what the numbers were for Hot Lotto many times and just had his brother or some other friend play combos that would have 4 of the numbers right or 3 numbers and the Hot ball or occasionally 4 WB and the Hot ball and play these combos with the sizzler for triple payout, and they could have picked up a lot of extra cash... Regarding your sentence, Suppose that they had found a way to actually program daily numbers into the RNG program to come out on specific days... , Eddie Tipton did that, and it's extremely well documented at Lottery Post. He did that on computers like the ones you described in Delaware. They all claim to be not connected to the internet, but that does not stop an insider.

Since Delaware started RNG drawings in 1994 or 1996, not sure exactly when now, I have requested a viewing of the process on at least 3 occasions. (That fact of when they started computer draws seems to have been eliminated from Goggle search, as trying to find any newspaper articles or any info at Delaware Lottery itself (their time line of events doesn't list it), can't be found. from a cold boot, we could use the autoexec.bat file to reset the date/time and then generate the number on a cold boot up.

it was always the same random number.

That's intresting, as I'm familiar with such a technique used to deat Software serialization, but for generating random numberz..!!?...

I ve noticed on several occasions that the winning numbers coincide with payout amounts . Which is the most random you can get. But it could just be coincidence after all

a computer can not generate a true random number as its based on the date/time clock and the internal timer.

with DOS, you could cold boot from a floppy, have your program reset set the date/time to your liking then generate a random number.

that random number would always be the same because the date/time is always reset before the random number is generated.

again, this was in DOS and limited to the DOS timer and the rand() function in C, roughly early 90's.

On November 19, 2006 Ohio State beat arch rival Michigan 42 - 39. The game ended about 20 minutes before the pick-4 drawing so I didn't have time to play 4239 in the pick-4, but lots of people probably watching in sports bars with lottery terminals did. There were 401 $5000 winning tickets.

The real question is, what is the best action to take to get states to use Mechanical Random Number Generators instead of Computer Random Number Generators?

I'm think boycotts would work best. They effect players profits. What would happen if players return the favor.

Requiring them to show their drawings live would definitely be an added bonus.

About your statement, They would need to use a device based on atomic decay or some other random physical process before I would accept that they are random. , don't fall into that trap!

The lotteries generally use very good random number generators these days, many of which use the atomic decay thing. But that's not the point. It's the lotteries' trap to get you arguing about how good the RNG is.

Oh wow, you are right. I stopped playing both of PA's Pick 3 drawings and even took it out of my software because when I found out they use computer random number generators I stopped playing both drawings. THANK YOU SO MUCH for mentioning that.

All Random Number Generators (RNG) are not the same.

I read an article a couple years ago about how the casinos had figured out how to get around those minimum payout requirements. It used to be on certain slot machines, if you sat and played one long enough, you could figure out the payout patterns. We as players do not have any knowledge of the type of RNG program being used to select the numbers. I have to believe that in this day an age, casinos and lotteries have to be studying the psychology of gambling and players habits and no telling what kind of code can be included in an RNG program. Not only you cannot be sure of its authenticity, but the randomness of an RNG is highly doubted, specially in stateless systems where external factors are called on purpose, i.e. blockchain smart contracts. That's why most of the online lotteries cannot be trusted and are labeled fraudulent. Even if it was just a coincidence, having the lottery drawings conducted via computer means you can never be sure. Even the staff cannot know for sure, because they just press a button and out come the numbers.

Nobody can see a computer program execute. But they can see balls tumbling in a machine and being drawn.
