It absolutely was a State lottery.

It was a lottery run by the state but it very definitely wasn't a CA lottery game. You can hope as much as you want but you're hoping that apples are oranges.

The vaccine lottery was run by the State done just like regular State lottery with numbered balls etc.

Governor Newsom drew the numbers himself.

Newsom said it was up to the winners if they wanted their names made public.

This sure looks like a legal precedent to allow lottery winners in California to remain anonymous to me. It absolutely was a State lottery.

I'm pretty sure that 1. the lottery for people who were vaccinated isn't a game offered by the CA lottery, and 2. HIPAA doesn't prevent state lotteries from releasing the names of winners.

Recently they had two or three lottery drawings for people who got the Covid vaccine to win various cash prizes. The winners of this were all given the option to remain anonymous. I haven't seen a single winner step forward to put their face/name out there in public.

Surely this has now set a precedent for winners of the regular lotteries to do the same
