Could you verify that officially with the Oregon Lottery? They aren't replying to me. Maybe they'd be willing to change that statement on their webpage, because it sounds like they do pay 50% on their in-state Megabucks game no matter what the interest rates are.

Yeah, I agree with this. There's no way the lottery would pay exactly one-half of any annuity jackpot as the cash value. If interest rates suddenly skyrocketed then the cash value might be less than half of the advertised annuity, in which case the Oregon Lottery would be overpaying you if they did a flat 50% payout. but not paying the advertised percentage of the actual annuity value to a winner taking a lump sum would be a clear case of fraud.

Yeah but I thought it would be against MUSL rules to take away the option to buy or not to buy the power play too.

Thanks again weshar75. Looks like I'll be visiting your state on Monday since all my advanced play tickets will be expired tonight. I think I'll buy a Megabucks too. It'll be $30 for 10 weeks, but I'll save much more than that by not buying quick picks whenever I'm near a machine here in Idaho.

I can only assume that the 50% figure on the OR website is the result of stupidity or extreme carelessness. NY hasn't listed cash values for years, either. The only reason I can think of is that they'd prefer players to think they're actually playing for the advertised amount instead of the lower cash value because everyone knows that bigger jackpots sell more tickets. Oregon Megabucks is half the annuity then taxes on Powerball and Mega millions it is what usamega jackpot analysis is that you get from Oregon misses taxes for cash and if you want the annuity then you would get roughly half after taxes if the taxes don't go up in 30 years.-weshar75

I live in Idaho but am planning to buy my tickets in Oregon due to the Powerball multiplier being forced on us.

However, I found a statement on the Oregon website that's worrisome. It says that if you win a jackpot prize and choose the cash option you will receive half of the annuity value. This statement comes after a paragraph discussing all 3 jackpot games - Powerball, Megamillions, and Oregon Cash.

Does Oregon really only give you half the annuity amount on MM and PB, or is this statem... [ More ]
