Care to expand on that thought? As a general idea mathematicians are vastly more likely to think in terms of probability and bookies are more likely to think in terms of odds. One or the other may be better suited to a particular application, but they're as interchangeable as degrees and radians or pounds and kilos.

There is a very good guide on a site called lotterycodex. You may want to look it up. It explains very clearly on probability vs odds etc. It is a long read, but worth it.

Personally, I would not play anything over 6/49. The odds against you are tremendous. For MM and PB, it's like being hit by lightening 200 - 300 times. Thanks Stack. While I didn't know how to figure those odds (math isn't my strongest suit) that is another trick I picked up from Lotto-Logix.

I figured my eliminating the previous 6 numbers drawn it would reduce the odds (conditionally of course).

BTW, today at work the rep from Tx Lottery came in and we chatted a few minutes. I told him I thought the odds for our lotto game was rather steep for the payout, in other words the jackpot should start out higher. He just nodded and grinned a l... [ More ]

By playing all the number on nine 9 lines you eliminated almost 14 million combinations that won't match one number. You're guaranteed to match one number on six lines so in effect reduced the odds to just under 2 million to 1. However the real trick is finding the correct order to enter all 54 numbers where one line will match all 6 numbers.

Texas lotto follow 3/2/1 rule. If you divide in to three groups, 1 to 18; 19 to 36 and 37 to 54. Then 3 from one group, 2 from another and 1 from the 3rd.

If the number of balls is divisible by 6 it makes more sense and is more aesthetic to partition the numbers into equal sized buckets rather than decades. Also makes the math easier. The decades method in 6/54 results in bucket sizes 9, 10, 10, 10, 10, 5 -- pretty ugly if you ask me. Better to do something like

bucket 1: 1-9

bucket 2: 10-18

bucket 3: 19-27

bucket 4: 28-36

bucket 5: 37-45

bucket 6: 46-54

That way, all the bucket sizes are 9.

On the Tx Lotto thread I started I had several sets of numbers that had all 54 in 9 lines. I like that format because I know I will have all the numbers that are drawn in play. Of course the hard part is having at least 3 of the winning numbers on the same line.

Eliminating the previous draws numbers means I could play the remaining 48 on 8 lines, of course hoping there are no repeats, which is what I posted on that thread for tonight.

We don't have many discussions on better ways to play jackpot game especially with creating conditional wheels or similar strategies. Probably because there is always someone questioning reducing odds . But we don't seem to have any lottery playing skeptics or critics posting.

Stat$talker, the only master of probability math, once told us the odd of repeat from previous draw is 1 in 2.5 in Texas lotto. So we assume it is a frequent event.

I think overall odd remain same, but you increase your chance by skipping previous draw. I usually skip if there was a repeat number in previous draw. Some repeat very frequently than others. Repeat from previous draw is very common in Texas lotteries. Frequency of one repeat in Lotto Texas is 1 in 2.5 (calculated). People use several other strategy to improve chance, such as, skipping one decade (for example skip #11 to 20).

I'm all for throwing probability, math (and the kitchen sink) at the games. Of course probability is nothing but a likelihood, no guarantee there.

Last year two of us were offered at home dialysis; myself and a guy 10 years younger, stronger, (and better looking). The doctor talks to both of us. He says, It'll be good for you and it'll probably work better.

Yes, there will be draws that include numbers from the previous draw. But it is a way to at least move the needle to helping yourself.

Read my post again, I didn't say no previous numbers will ever draw back to back. Brush up on your reading comprehension.

Cauze just when you think that none if those numberz from the previous drawing will draw back to back?....They Will..Most think itz called Murphy's Law , but it'll be LO's Law ..

Simply cauze, ..let'z say that you may've had All 6 numberz for the current draw

But NOT including ANY of the previous 6 winning numberz give yo State's Mainframe A WAY OUT..az it will surely take it... Been dere , Done dat.

Last night while putting together some numbers for the 2 Step and Tx Lotto threads I remembered something I read many years ago in BobP's Lotto Logix site. There is a wealth of information on there.
