For me it would depend upon how much I won too.

I've seen The Jackpot Winner's and Retailers Report and was shocked to see the winners name listed for the 1.58 million MM ticket sold in Atlantic Beach as they must have waived claiming pursuant to FS 24.051. I'm very surprised that their name hasn't been in the news. (If it has, I haven't seen it)

There are a few other large jackpots (PB, MM, and Florida Lotto) that were won in August of 2023 that the winner did not waive FS 24.1051. Com... [ More ]

For me it depends on the amount you're comfortable claiming under your own name. I got sneak peak on the Winners Retailer Information for the last $1.580 billion mega-millions winner from Atlantic Beach. Don't ask me how. That prize was claimed by an individual in Atlantic Beach, FL. The named is register to an ER Physician with the zip code. The rich keep getting richer as they say. But he claimed that monstrous prize in his own name.

I could see a couple of people on this forum bragging to lottery officials how they discovered the secret pattern to winning and how most lottery winner stories are fake news and being arrogant and nasty in responses to simple due diligence questions. Where did you purchase your ticket? None of your business. These walking red flags are going to be waiting for a while to actually receive their money should they win a major jp.

that's the name that will be recorded by the state lottery and who that state lottery will pay the claim to and your name will be entered into the public domain.

Obviously checking with a lawyer as soon as you find out you've won is a very good idea, but one thing to do even before that is *not* sign the wrong name to the ticket. So was Jason Kurland. You might want to interview 2-3 attorneys to get a feel for them. Let them know you will actively double check your investments and watch his or her reaction. Ask if they are familiar with Jason Kurland and see what they say.

And that lawyer isn't just some dude always trying to get his name out there. He's an estate planning attorney that has set up trust agreements for multiple PB, and MM jackpot winners as well as scratch off winners that won multiple millions of dollars. G5

I agree 110%. Signing a ticket with a foolish statement like that or with any type of doodles would likely trigger a full investigation by the state lottery. It seems to signify a lack of honesty and possible criminal intent.

1. Make a million copies of your ticket.

Signing your ticket I know nothing is bound to cause even more problems for you. Just follow the advice of your state lottery or a lawyer who has handled lottery claims in your state.

Lottery claim rules vary widely state to state, so you should get advice from a lawyer who works in your state and is familiar with your state's lottery laws. Not some dude in Florida who is always trying to get his name out there.

If you sign your name to the back of the ticket, then that's the name that will be recorded by the state lottery and who that state lottery will pay the claim to and your name will be entered into the public domain. You cant alter/change the back of the ticket once it's been signed.

There is no record other than the ticket itself of what numbers you've played. But if you want to try to keep your identity a secret, then you may be able to use a trust. Should you decide to claim the money that way, make sure you're signing the ticket correctly .

It's common for state lotteries to recommend players immediately sign the back of their ticket if they win big. Other experts have said the same thing.

Yet I'm aware of a Florida lawyer that recommends players not sign the back of their ticket if they win a jackpot. He says they should make and keep a copy of it, and put the original/official ticket in a safe deposit box. The lawyer says there is a very good reason why the winner shouldn't sign it.
