If what you said were true, why stop art one extra ticket?

300 / 2 = 150

150/2 = 75

75/2= 37.50

37.50/ 2 = 18.75

18.75 = 9.375

9.375 / 2 = 4.6875

4.6875 = 2.34375

2.34375 / 2= 1.171875

1.171875 = 0.5859375

There, using your theory it's only its only taken 8 tickets to takws the odd down to leass than one.

Thanks for your insight on the question.

I know from the onset that it would be hard to have an exact number and this the use of the term on average.

It's sobering to know that possibly 10M other humans had a ticket for yesterday's drawing, and some had hundreds of tickets when you consider pools.

Also the fact that people outside the USA can also buy tickets through some platforms.

When one wins the jackpot, it really is defying great odds.

I'm not sure that the lotteries even have a precise answer. They obviously know if somebody buys multiple tickets with a single playslip, and multiple playslips can be played in a single transaction as reported by the terminal, but we see posters who buy tickets at different stores and even different states. Do a searcch here on LP for does an additional ticket cut the odds in half?

There is one and only one set of numbers that wons the jackpot. the odds are based on the tital number of combinations possible.

Each additional set of numbers played reduces the overall odds by one combination, it does not cut the odds in half.

The reason I asked the above question is to be able to see how odds can be viewed. We are accustomed to the 1:292M or 1:300M odds of winning.

One can see the magnitude if the odds are compared with people. For instance let's say in tonight's PB drawing, 35 million people played. So if you have a ticket you know that there are 34.999999 million people who have a ticket or tickets in their hands plus you.

Between 55 and 65 million tickets may not mean that between 55 and 65 million people played in that drawing.

Like I said some people buy more than one ticket.

If we say for instance that the average person buys 3 tickets, our top number if 65 million tickets would be 21.3M people played. But that's just an example

That's a percentage and they normally have it against different parameters. Like maybe 1 in 8 play when the jackpot is a certain amount etc.

There is alot of % out there. 70% play the lottery every year. Or 1 in 8 people play the lottery.

Yes one can estimate the number of tickets sold, the multipliers can throw that number off. One person could buy 20 tickets etc.

I know it could be a hard ask, but I thought we have great mathematicians with us
