There's a supermarket near my office I buy some of my tickets from and the employee who usually sells them to me has told me more than one the regular customers has told her they won't be playing the new MegaMillions. It will be interesting to see what happens to sales starting on Saturday.

Its interesting that my most people seem too be thinking alike, me included.

It crossed my mind that if loyal MM players don't like the new pricing, they could shift loyalty to PB.

For $5, one will get two PB tickets and $1 change.

That would then make the PB jackpot grow faster than the MM jackpot.

However, MM will always have a $30M head start when the jackpots reset.

PB may counter that by returning to the $40M starting jackpot before the pandemic.

If people don't play MM the jackpots won't be increasing as much due to low sales and PB sales will double. PB will then start having bigger jackpots and more winners.

The catch is that the jackpot resets at 50M when won.

The precious jackpot was won - 344M.

This is a new jackpot and has not been won.

So when this current jackpot is won, the new jackpot will be 50M.

I think that's how they will interpret it.

Don't think they will back date the rules to before the 5th of April.

From what I gather. They will not bump it 50 million. After the jackpot is hit, the amount will reset to a base of $50 million. If the jackpot is still rolling after the drawing on April 4, 2025, it will continue to roll until it is hit, and will then reset to $50 million. And all they did to change the game was remove 1 mega ball. So the odds went from 1 and 24 to 1 and 23.07. This is just my opinion. But I think mega millions shot there selfs in the foot. That being said it isn't the $5 that bothers me it's the rape-a-plier.

Having the rape-a-plier forced on every ticket is a huge ick factor which will cause me to turn into a big jackpot player.

They should have gone with an optional bigaplier for second prize and a smallaplier for lower tier prizes.

The Balls they use could be of various materials. Some materials use RFID, which are called Smart Balls.

Without having access to the room where the MM Drawings take place, it's unsure what balls are being used, and how the balls are stacked in the drop chamber chutes.

I'm sure there's a whole lot more to this price increase than they're telling us. I know that both MM and PB have been spoiled by 3+years of very high interest rates that have lined their pockets with record profits, as the cash value of jackpots has hit all-time lows.

The closest thing I'm aware of is that, IIRC, NY briefly offered Lotto 3 times a week and then reverted back to the usual twice a week. I don't know if it was related to effectively raising the price by 50% to play for a week reducing sales, but I think it definitely qualifies as stepping back from a new and improved game.

The cash payout isn't a penalty . It's the amount the lottery would have to invest to pay the annuity for 20, 30, or whatever years the payout is for the jackpot. The cash payout is actually the true jackpot, they just like to promote the annuity jackpot because, well, it sounds better.
