I would imagine the number one reason why someone would not cash in a winner is likely because they died. I wonder if there are stats on the number of unclaimed pick 3 tickets.

Wow. This is sad to hear as a regular lottery player. But it's used by state governments to fund good causes. If they actually use the money as promised... I think I'd rather have individuals receive the money, but of course I'm biased.

Well, I imagine the lottery association doesn't want those funds to sit and collect dust indefinitely instead of being put to use. A year is more than plenty of time to claim. On that note, I wonder how many lottery jackpots go unclaimed in a year

the year 2198: cybernetic android poolshooter4 finally finds the powerball ticket he bought in 2024 back when he had his original body. unfortunately, due to the great ai war of 2025, there is no longer a lottery office where he can submit a claim.

My take is a person takes the time and pays the money for a ticket, how hard can it be to check that ticket? It can be done in the comfort of home on the computer. How hard can it be to take a ticket that has won any amount of money, but certainly a large amount of money, and make the claim for that money? If such a person is that lazy to not even bother to check the ticket within 6 months or a year, whatever the lottery requires, they didn't care about winning anyway. Why even bother buying the...
