Dear Webmaster: NY State has the longest-running lotto game in the US (1978), though with many format changes. However, its rollovers are getting smaller, because NY Lotto players are gypped since the prize return is a nation's-lowest 40%! The NJ Pick-6 is the country's second-oldest lotto, and, probably to make it seem better than the NY game, drew this five-digit number in conjunction with the Pick Sick . What should have been a temporary gimmick lasted until Sep 2000-thank goodness it's go... [ More ]

The new version of New Jersey Pick-6 Lotto (6/49) is MUCH BETTER than the former 6/46 in two ways: there is a 3# prize for the first time ($3), and, the BOGUS number was almost impossible to match. Players who chose cash on Pick-6 were NOT allowed to receive the top prize in the BOGUS drawing in lump sum

Gloria,You are right. Michigan seems to take away more than it gives. I don't think the recently newRolldown game is that good. Just a new name for a Cash Five game that was not working either.I think the Big Game is what is keeping the MI. lottery going. With 2 casino's open and a third ready to open plus the casino in Windsor, Mich. had better come up with something or it is going to lose even more money on its games.Charlie

Yeah, I agree. This is definitely a trend -- I think caused by the desire to increase the size of the jackpot. When the jackpot increases, so does the number of ticket purchases. New Jersey, as part of their lottery restructure, has also eliminated their bonus drawing. Instead, they are focused on larger jackpots. Many lottery players enjoy a multiple prize structure which includes sizeable bonus prizes. Hopefully the lotteries are listening.

It seems that Michigan never adds anything to their games. It is always take away and less prize money. If anyone remembers, they used to give away 200,000 every week on those little green tickets. 25,000 was second prize. Then they started giving away 5,000 with a chance a 50,000. Five thousand is 1/40 of 200,000. Now, since yesterday, they don't even have a program. It seems if they wanted to stimulate more interest in the lottery that they would give away more money and not take away
