Dear Charlie: There have been several types of lotto games with a bonus ball. The powerball and Big Money Ball are needed in their respective games to win the jackpot. The failed Bonus Lotto was, I believe, $2 per game, AND, you had to match the bonus ball to win if you did not hit the jackpot. I think you could match FIVE numbers and still not win. The Ohio and New York lotto games draw a bonus ball to create more ways to win, however, 3+ bonus pays only $5 in Ohio, and, the NY Lotto ha... [ More ]

Charlie,I agree with you. Bonus Ball lotteries like The Big Game and Powerball work because of the fact that they are multi-state lotteries, and therefore have larger player pools.States looking to revamp their lotteries should probably do something like New Jersey did: stick with a pick 6 and offer prizes for matching as few as 3 numbers. New Jersey increased the size of their jackpots by slightly increasing the size of its number pool.I think state lotteries get a little too greedy sometim... [ More ]

This is another attempt by the Mich. lotto to scam its lotto playing customers. This will merely be an attempt to resurrect the big flop of its Bonus Ball lotto game of a few years ago. That game didn't work then and this game will not work now.Ohio started a new game a few months back called Super Lotto Plus. Same type of deal. 6 numbers + a Bonus number. In my opinion , I believe Ohio will find that this game will not work. Payoffs are small and not enough overall winners.Charlie

Although I live in New York state, I read in a NY lottery magazine that MI Lotto will be replaced next month by a 6/51 game called Michigan Millions , which will draw a bonus ball plus the six regular numbers, similar to the current NY game. I can see why MI Lotto has fell out of favor, since you need FOUR numbers in its 6/49 to win (worse odds than an exact bet on a Pick-3.) The 6/48 game in Indiana gives you a free play on TWO NUMBERS ! Any more details on Michigan Millions
