Incidently, do you know the answer to my question about payments? You seem to be very knowledgeable about lotteries. In case you haven't read my question, I want to know if you take the pay-out method instead of a lump sum and you unfortunately die before all the payments are made, does the balance of the payments go to your estate? No one around here seems to know. I've had opinions both ways, and of course that's a lot of help.

I also would like to see Pennsylvania join. If the qualifying requirement is abutment to a great lake, of course Pennsylvania abuts Lake Erie. Let's hope they do it.

I e-mailed the Georgia Lottery Corporation asking about the possible transition into the Lotto South deal,their response was and I quote The Georgia Lottery Corporation is considering plans for a Lotto-Style game in conjunction with kentucky and Virginia,at this time however we have no additional information available regarding this plan

Diane: Maybe eventually. However, SC will only allow in-state games initially. There must be legislative approval to join a multi-state game. I would have to think SC would offer Big Game or Powerball assuming they get the chance.

Wich will cause a 10 to 17 per cent lost in sales for Georgia..I believe that there is a finite amount spent on lotteries over-all..Adding games will just shift money from one game to another verses causing a significant increase in all games overall...Just my theory..

Todd: The other potential members are all Southern states. I think the #1 purpose of this game is to allow players to try for sizeable jackpots without the impossible odds of Powerball/Big Game. As for the jackpot being hit too often, it's certainly possible, but, it means that there will be bigger rollovers when not hit. IMHO there are a few problems with the Lotto South:1. The name: why call it Lotto South? What if a Northern or Western state wants to join? Will people in those states want to play Lotto SOUTH?2. 6/49: if LS expands to too many states, with the increased player base, people will win the jackpot before it gets a chance to grow very large. They'll have to change the number pool or add a money ball or something. I thought the point of the thing was to replace the states' lotto games, not be another... [ More ]

Todd: Lotto South may eventually be sold in more than three states. Even Florida has expressed interest, although it would seem an awkward fit since Florida Lotto is 6/53. This appears to be the first lottery trend of the 21st century-Powerball and Big Game lotteries chucking their in-state jackpot games while forming multi-state game(s) that, in at least one instance, involves both rival alliances.

I guess that they will do whatever they won't to do..It appears to me that they have reach what I call lottery saturation ..Adding any more or extending any more fields will just prove futile in increasing ...the bringing in of any more funds.

They're certainly not being very open about their plans. I did read somewhere (can't track down where) that Georgia did decide to go forward with Lotto South (replacing their existing lotto game), and that same source said it was a done deal for VA and KY as well. Also, jackpots will definitely start at $2 million and build from there. While that's better than a jackpot starting at $1 million, I can't see it causing people to flood the lottery retailers.Either way, it'll be interesting to watch.... [ More ]

Todd: My guess is that the 6/49 Lotto Virginia will become Lotto South . Lotto Kentucky , a 6/42 game, is being discontinued, but I don't know yet about 6/46 Lotto Georgia .

Todd, I also see that Michigan is considering a lotto game that would include Illinois, since the new Michigan Millions game is struggling. The recent decision in Ohio means they cannot (for now) join forces with MI. Since Michigan and Illinois are Great Lakes states, should they get together, I would like to see Pennsylvania offer this game as well.

It looks like Georgia will eliminate its lotto game if they go with Lotto South. I believe they are in the process of formalizing this at the present. ROW probably has more info on this.-Todd

The Lotto South game to begin after Labor Day will mean at least one in-state jackpot game will be ending. Lotto Kentucky will be cannibalized (I don't know yet about Lotto Georgia). What might very well happen is that the Lotto Virginia 6/49 game, which took on its current format last year, would become Lotto South .
